ELF is definitely inexpensive and i have used a few of the products. The staying power is not so great but works for the tough times when you cant afford a bit more. Try Avon products that are very inexpensive. Trade off on items that work for your face. check them out, i use their eyeliners because the liquid does not crack and the pencils do not fade. I also use the lipsticks a lot and they are inexpensive!

Ben Nye is ridiculously hard to get ahold of in the US. It's only available on stage makeup websites. I've never seen it in stores, which can be super frustrating.

ELF products are a great alternative to expensive department store and name brands. They are really inexpensive, I don't know about the staying power though. I have started used ELF products but have not tried their blush yet. It will be interesting to see if I can tell a difference. Good recommendations!

I don't see how you can compare Mac eye shadows to wet & wild - there really is no comparison. The quality you can get with Mac eye shadows is worth spending a little more money. Wet & Wild doesn't stay put and even when used with a primer in no way has the color pigment that Mac has. I would say Revlon 24 hour is a much better comparison and still won't break the bank if you can afford to pay the prices for Mac products.

I've tried tons of other bronzers to replace my costly NARS habit but nothing compares. Not a single bronzer I've ever tried gives the perfect color, perfect shimmer, or blends as well as nars does. I did, however, find a cheap alternative to a few skinceuticals products so i guess I can splurge on bronzer with the money I saved from my skincare routine :)

Thanks for the article & for all of your helpful comments too! I just want to share a drugstore equivalent to a popular high-end blush that I just came across. I really love NARS Org asm blush and just found the drugstore match to it: It's Wet n Wild's Pearlescent Pink blush. I compared them side by side and they look identical on me! The Wet N Wild blush is very pigmented and won't disappear on your face throughout the day & is a good daily makeup alternative when one is on a budget. I can then save my NARS blush for special occasions. Enjoy! Thanks again everyone!

There is just no way CG foundation come even close in quality to Giorgio Armani foundation. CG is simply clogs up pores. Armani one literally gives you photoshopped flawless look!

I LOVE Milani eyeshadow--I wear it almost every day and have found it to be a wonderfully pigmented and high pay off brand. I also have the ELF blush/bronzer duo. As I haven't tried the NARS I really can't compare, but to me, the ELF isn't very pigmented on my fair skin.

This is one of the best articles yet from Total Beauty. I agree 100% on all but the mascara. Having used both the Loreal mascara and the Dior Show mascara for years, I have to say there is NO comparison. Dior Show is by far and away the better pick and NOTHING even remotely compares to it. Even though the current economy has shrunk my beauty wallet, I will still by the Show mascara. LOL

My favs for primer and/or finishing powder, and mineral foundation are Essential Wholesale. I get 4 oz, for less than $20. For lippies, eye shadow. blush and other things, Silk Naturals and Honeybee Gardens are inexpensive, and don't break me out.

Have used only high end makeup for a long time but over the past incorporated some drug store items and some of them are pretty good. My staples are L'oreal Double Extend Mascara and Revlon Colour Burst Lipstick. Although I have not tried the drugstore eyeshadows mentioned here, I found Cover Girl, Maybelline and Revlon eyeshadows to not have enough pigment so I still stick to high end eyeshadows.

I am a fan of the Milani brand, and am planning on making a purchase soon, but it is not the easiest to find in drug stores, and the price here I think is slightly higher. I love the comparisons and will keep an eye on these brands. I tend not to like foundation or creams with sunscreen. I only get the expensive makeup when they offer other stuff to sample.

I found the Elf blush/bronzer to not be anywhere near a match for the Nars version. Also, I can't seem to find Revlon "Naughty Nude" lipstick anywhere except for old tubes being sold on eBay. I believe it has been discontinued. The Total Beauty folks missed the boat on that one.

I seem to use more and more drugstore products lately. It wasn't even a conscious decision to save money or anything, just how it's worked out! There are some awesome drugstore products nowdays, not to mention most drugstores have sales and coupons pretty frequently. Unfortunately the one thing I can't replace is Fairydrops mascara. I'm hooked, and it's not cheap! I went back to drugstore (Maybelline One by One, and L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black) and wasn't as happy with them as I had been before!

I've used many good skin products, both high end and drug stores, but the best skin products to date have been the Jan Marini line, sold either on her site or in doctors' offices. A little pricey, but the results have been worth it. Also, my question is: L'Oreal owns Lancome, and other drug store names own high end department store products, are the ingredients different or contain fewer, good ingredients? Do they change their brand for the less expensive market?

Except Natureluxe smells horrific and the GA foundation doesn't. And if you're the least bit sensitive to cheap perfume, Natureluxe will do horrible things to your skin and/or cause you to get migraines and/or whatever else happens to you. And I own both and definitely don't think the texture is that close. It's like you randomly matched two foundations together or something.

Good advice but I find that the natureluxe foundation works very well but has the most awful smell, love the gloss balm though.

Good article. Love Revlon lipstick! I just bought 24K Orange (#706) and Coral-Berry (#674) and they are both pretty peachy-orange without being crazy. I think they'd look good on anyone.

I've tried Maybelline FitMe foundation and loose powder. They are wonderful products. I'm a fan of Elf, also. Thanks for the info.
