Katy Perry has come a long way from her bright blue roots. Watch the sassy pop star as she preps for her July 2013 "Vogue" cover and talks about the evolution of her look. Although she gets a helping hand, we love watching how Perry applies her own makeup. Watch the video and pick up some of her tricks. She goes from barefaced to seriously glam with big curls, a dark lip, and full, defined brows. read more
Weekends to us mean leisurely brunches, hiking with friends, and, OK, catching up on errands too. What they don't mean: spending hours in front of the mirror perfecting a cat eye before heading to the coffee shop or grocery store. read more
When MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick launched online in May, it sold out faster than we could finish our lunch. But MAC promised it would be back, and we've had a mental countdown going ever since. We're finally in the home stretch: the new RiRi Loves MAC collection drops tomorrow at noon EST on maccosmetics.com. read more

Target has launched a new tutorial video with some great, easy-to-follow tips for a gorgeous smoky eye. The brand tapped makeup artist and founder of the Pixi makeup line, Petra Strand, to show her best advice to create a smoky eye using Pixi Lid & Line in Smoky Olive, $18. This three-in-one pencil has a liner, shadow, and smudger, so you can pull off the day-to-night look with one simple product. In the video, Strand shows how to elongate the line of your eye to create a cat eye look, and then add more pigment using the powder pressed shadow inside the pencil. Next, she uses the smudger to blend the powder up over the lid. To finish the look, she uses Pixi Large Lash Mascara in Bold Black, $18. Another great tip: In order to get mascara truly at the root and lengthen your lashes, make sure you look down as you're applying. Watch the video to see Strand apply the smoky look! read more
If it weren't so cruel and circa 1948, we'd laugh at the losers who are calling out Rachel Zoe for her son's long hair and the principal who forced a teenage boy to wash off his eyeliner. But people are seriously freaking out about these innocent acts, as if boys can't be boys unless they're in crew cuts and combat boots. read more
We doubt you'll ever find any of those scary "celebrities without makeup" shots of Miranda Kerr. Even when she's running mundane errands, the Victoria's Secret Angel is drop-dead gorgeous. (With a little help from her favorite things, of course). Here, Kerr is shopping in a department store in South Korea, and demonstrates just how stunning a simple slash or two (in this case, a subtle cat eye and bold red lip) can be. Here's how to DIY: read more
No matter how much of a beauty buff you are, it's heart-breaking to see those images posted by animal rights activists of bunnies and monkeys in cages undergoing cosmetics testing. So it's a huge relief to find out that researchers at Newcastle University in the UK have found a better way to test new cosmetics ingredients and drugs. read more
Signing on a celebrity spokesperson can be a risky game of image roulette for beauty brands. If you're smart, you land winners like Ellen Degeneres and Sofia Vergara for CoverGirl. Not so smart? You get Most Likely to Relapse award-winner Lindsay Lohan hawking Sevin Nyne Self-Tanner. We're giving a thumbs-up to today's announcement that sweet "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale was named the new beauty ambassador for mark cosmetics, Avon's beauty and fashion boutique brand. mark and Hale announced her new role in true 2013 fashion -- on Instagram (@mark_girl and @lucyhale89) -- earlier today. read more
It's no secret -- I'm pale, and proud of it (see: fear of self-tanners and obsession with sunscreen). But this is the time of year when all of my friends have a radiant, Charlize Theron-esque glow, and the truth is, I feel ghostly. I covet their sun-kissed skin and wish for a little color of my own. So I'm breaking out the bronzer. read more
