Skin Emergency: Heat Rash
Symptoms: A cluster of red or white miliaria, small pus-filled bumps typically found on the cheeks, forehead and chin. These bumps are clogged pores -- the result of crystallized (dried) sweat trapped under the skin.
Treat it: Get out of the heat. Then cleanse, dry and pat your skin with baby powder to soothe the zone. After a few minutes, apply an over-the-counter cortisone or anti-itch cream, like Aveeno 1 Percent Hydrocortisone Anti-itch Cream, $5.99, to reduce inflammation and redness. Reapply every three hours as needed.
Prevent it: Stay in cool, dry, air-conditioned environments as much as possible. When outside in the heat, cleanse skin immediately after sweating. Carry disposable wipes when you're on the go to sweep sweat off your face and other rash-prone zones And finally, avoid oil-based products, says Frew.
