Excellent Semi-perm Product
Let me preface this review by clearing up some misconceptions about semi-perm hair coloring products. First, this is a semipermanent hair color, meaning its not going to lift and change your existing hair color. So, if you have black hair, its not going to make it red. If you have brunette hair, its not going to make it blonde. Additionally, semipermanent hair color tends to come out much darker, especially after you've freshly colored with it, in order to keep the shade in longer as it fades in about 28 shampoos, so you may want to go a shade lighter if you are worried about a too deep shade or are stuck between deciding amongst shades. In order to get the best results, you need to understand this will work best if you are staying within approx 2 shades of your natural color. Any desires for a drastic hair color change really need to be made in a salon. All of that being said, this product is now my preferred semipermanent hair color product, even over my former fave- natural instincts. My hair is a medium brown with warm undertones, I used the shade "Truffle", which is a medium natural brown. The scent of the color is very similar, except lighter, to most of the L'Oreal hair colors. Once applied, the product looked like a melted chocolate bar on my head and the color result was a nice dark chocolate brown. I have some grays, approx 20% maybe? And this completely covered them which no other semi permanent product has ever done. Additionally, it rinsed out like a dream and my hair felt great even before using the after color conditioner that came in the box. Oh, and that conditioner left my hair super silky without it being weighed down and they give enough for several additional weekly conditioning treatments. My hair was exactly my natural color, all grays covered, was super shiny and felt in better condition that it was prior to coloring. This is a 10 minute color but the box recommended leaving it on for 15 minutes for resisitant grays so that is what I did. I was truly impressed with this product and would definitely repurchase it. I use the L'Oreal EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner to wash my hair and I have had very, very gradual fading and no staining clothes or pillowcases. Depending on what a friend might be looking for in a hair color, I'd recommend this one if it would fit their needs. — 8 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

Fantastic Color
I tried this for the first time in Cafe Noir/Black. The "results swatch" as well as the model's hair is lighter (dark brown) than the name, so it's not accurate. My hair literally came out black. After the first shampoo there were brown highlights. Very natural looking. I've only used this a few days ago so will update later how well it holds up to the 28 shampoos. I'm shampooing every other day and conditioning every day. Only con is the formula is thin/runny so difficult to saturate all my hair, I missed a spot on the side. I have long hair (1/3rd down my back) and there was just enough dye. The color came out fantastic (instructions for Cafe Noir states you need to leave on for 15 minutes, not 10 min.) I will try the Espresso/Darkest Brown next. Can't wait to try out the other colors. Update September 2011: I first wrote the above review in April 2011. The Cafe Noir/Black did not hold up to the 28 shampoos. It started to fade fairly quickly. I would say I enjoyed the color the first two weeks. After that it was too light for my liking. It fades gradually. I also tried the Espresso/Darkest Brown shade but would not use again; it was dark but had too much of a reddish tint to it. It came out more of a reddish dark brown. It's a good way to test out colors but if there's a shade you like you would have to dye every 2-3 weeks to maintain it so it's high maintenance. I'm lowering my original rating of 9 down to a 7. — 1 year, 9 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 4 people said helpful

Mixed Feelings.
Overall and initially i really liked what i saw. The color came out great, my hair was super conditioned and shiny, not dry. When i washed my hair two days later you could see color in the water in the bottom of the tub, i actually expected that since this isn't a permanent dye. What i didn't expect was for the color to stain my pajamas since my hair was still wet. Having never used a non-permanent dye before i learned something, and it's good advice i pass on to you: use caution around fabrics while your hair is wet. My towel is stained, my pj's and so is my pillow case. Other than that little problem, the color is great, it conditions hair wonderfully. One more thing, the smell of the conditioner it comes with is a bit funky smelling. I'm going to try Clariol Loving Care next and see if that does any better. — 3 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 5 people said helpful

Ugh....smells like kitty urine!
I just used this tonight and realized what the smell reminded me of. *shudder* Blech! But the smell will go away, so I'm not so concerned about that. I've never dyed my hair, at home or professionally - ever! - but the grays were creeping in and I was fed up with plucking them, so I nervously broke down and bought this stuff. I watched a youtube video on how to dye at home and went to work. I have very long, naturally black hair, that seems to have some warm-ish tones in it. I bought a color called "Double Espresso" Rich Black, Level 1. I wasn't too nervous about color mistakes, since my hair is already black. So far, it's dried to a deep blue-black shade. I kept it in for a total of 10-15 minutes as per the instructions, after applying to my whole head. When rinsing, I saw a BIG chunk of hair in the sink and panicked - not sure if the dye was the cause of it, but I began to rinse it out like a maniac, just to get it out of my hair. I used the conditioner and rinsed for fifteen minutes. The end result SO FAR: My hair is soft, somewhat glossy and my grays are totally covered. *shrug* For my first try at this, I'm okay with it. As for the loss of the hair in the sink, I don't really notice any bald spots, burning or reactions anywhere. I'm more calm now about the experience. Still....it was scary to witness all the hair in the sink and honestly not know if this dye was the cause. My hair is (was?!) in healthy condition. I give this a 6 rating because it did what it claimed, but I feel they could work on a few things to improve the product. That may seem like an understatement to some after reading about my experience, but I'm just not that hair-centric. So yeah, it worked but the product could definitely be improved. — 10 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

Great Color
I got the 6 Light Brown. It is a semi-permanent product. It colored all of my my grays well. Some other permanent brands don't color my gray hair. I just wish it would last longer than 28 shampoos as it was a great color and my hair looked great. — 6 days, 7 hours agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

L'Oreal Healthy Look Crème Gloss
I got a free sample of this hair dye so I tried it. The color looked wonderful at first but has faded quite a bit after just under 2 weeks. Also anytime my hair got wet, the dye would come out. Including perspiration, I ruined a few pillow cases due to this and now have to sleep with a dark towel on my pillow just to not ruin any more pillow cases. I won't use this product again and would not recommend it to anyone else — 1 month, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Regret-Free Dye
I'm a little annoyed this is the only demi-permanent color for sale at drugstores. The color is rich and beautiful, but there aren't enough shades to choose from. I don't like to commit to a certain color so this line comes in handy when I'm feeling impulsive and adventurous. No regrets with this product, and I like that. — 3 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Use product with caution!
I dyed my hair once with this product, and when I went to target I picked out the "5CB Chestnut Brown" color. The color looked like a rich, warm brown on the box, but when I put it in my dark blonde hair, the dye turned purple! After rinsing the purple goop out of my hair, I was surprised to see a bright orange that lasted for a very long time!!! The color may seem temporary but the orange tone stayed in my hair for a few months until I went to a salon to "fix" it! — 6 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Quick,uneven fading
I colored my hair less than two weeks ago and its fading! I don't even wash my hair everyday (i do every other day because its so thick). My hair is very long and thick (its half way down my back) and the bottle did not cover everything. Now its fading in some kind of stripe pattern and looks ridiculous. The only thing i like about it is that its ammonia free and not so stinky. — 8 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful
