Editor Review

Rated a 6.5

Fans of Stila Smudge Pots may be impressed by this rich, creamy liner and professional-quality brush set. Colors are diverse, super-rich and long-lasting. The unattached, angled brush is easy to lose, but worth safeguarding. Potential poo-poo factors involve dryness: Dry liner will render brush bristles useless (wipe off bristles after each application); smudges can easily occur before liner dries (um, don't blink); and color may dry out in pot (keep cap tightly sealed).

Really great stuff - use sparingly!

    by abbeyainscal (6 reviews)
This is amazingly good for eyeliner. For YEARS I've tried to find a stick that actually goes on easily without pulling, skipping, etc. I"ve never found one and have bought many. I saw this and had a coupon so I tried it. Yes, you need a few times to get the hang of it but it's great! Use lightly, go over more, wipe... your brush, cap tightly and this should last forever. I know I"ve had the black at least 2 - 3 months and it's barely used. You can do everything, cat eyes, tightlining, etc. with this! Wipe, rinse and dry the brush each time but that's about it. Also have it in brown and the brown looks weird in the jar but actually is a very neutral, sable kind of color. You won't regret this purchase but you need a steady hand! March 25, 2008, 8:19 am

    Wonderful for the Price

I find these liners comparable to MAC Fluidlines. They are soft, creamy, and easy to apply. They stay all day on me, but come off easily with eye makeup remover. I really love the colors too, there is black and brown, but there is also a beautiful midnight blue and eggplant purple. I would not recommend the teal color howev...er, because it tends to be dry and hard to use. Also, I wouldn't use the brush it comes with, it is too thick for eyeliner. Though it is only a few dollars cheaper than the MAC ones, you can find these for buy one get one, plus they come with a lot more product in them. To me, these are a great alternative for those who do not want to buy Fluidlines. April 24, 2008, 4:36 pm

    Great Colors, Mediocre Consistency

I'm a fan of gel and cream liners, so when I saw these hit the drugstores last summer I quickly snapped them up. The colors were gorgeous, have great pigmentation and the wear was on par with other liners of this type that I'd tried (that is to say, pretty good. Could last all day with minimal-to-no smudging), but I found... the application and texture of these to be inferior to MAC's fluidlines which I'm more accustomed to. The product was sort of dry and clay-like in the pot and it was a little hard to pick up much product with one of the eyeliner brushes I already owned. The eyeliner brush it comes with picked up product well, but I found this brush to be too stiff and scratchy to feel comfortable using it on the eye area. Also, when I tried applying it to the waterline of the eye (which I know is frowned upon by some, but I do it with all of my MAC liners), it felt a lot grainier and felt more uncomfortable than any other eyeliner I've tried. Also, since this is a drier product it didn't glide on as quickly for me as some of my other cream liners and thus took longer to do my eyes than it usually does. So overall, I wasn't incredibly impressed. I wanted to love them because the colors (especially the teal!) were gorgeous, but the product felt a little cheap. And while it's true that this product is cheaper than its competitors, it's really not that cheap for a drug store eyeliner (I think I got mine for $11-12) and thus not really worth it to me. I'd rather pay the extra money and buy one of the higher end brand's versions of this. December 12, 2007, 10:19 pm

Okay-good product, but not willing to switch....

I only got this after reading so many reviews so I absolutely had to try it. I didn't get it on sale because I was antsy about buying asap but I didn't care either. I immediately fell in love with it and knew that I had found my HG liner. After a month of using it, I now realize it is a good liner but I also believe it d...ries out too quickly on the brush when I'm applying it. I love the consistency, the color intensity and the fact that it does last all day on my oily eyelids (from 8am-10pm as a matter of fact.) I once fell asleep with it on and the eyeliner was still in place, just a little smudged on my oily lids. You do need a rather strong oil-based eye-makeup remover because face wash and water will simply not do for this. I have also heard that many people would rather buy MAC for a couple bucks more, but you can more than likely buy this on sale BOGOF, plus one look at the container and you can tell you're getting way more as well. I've read reviews for MAC's Fluidline in Blacktrack and I don't have time to reapply the liner 10 times to get the same pigment I get with L'Oreal in 1-2 swipe(s). Plus not many of us are living next door to a MAC retail store either. Now the brush is extremely rough and scratchy feeling on my hand (I didn't dare risk it on my eyelid) and it's better off for grooming your eyebrows with. You definitely need to buy your own brush. Lately, though my only complaint about it is that when I'm applying my liner with the brush, it does seem to dry rather quick so you have to keep dipping your brush to grab the color. Great colors and wearability

    by mw_nyc (3 reviews)
I have the blue, teal and purple liners. The blue is by far my favorite: it is a very wearable shade of sapphire that really brightens my brown eyes. The blue is subtle enough to wear during the day(especially when layered with a black liner--if you're really into intensity). The teal is very bright and should probably be u...sed sparingly, mixed with black, or for color accents. The brush that comes with the product is really bad. Instead, use a flat liner brush or a small, round bushy brush if you want a more smudged look. January 2, 2008, 1:44 pm

    Great eyeliner

I have never been one to be good at putting on eyeliner so I never wear it. Then I saw these and got the black one. After one day of wearing it I fell in love with the stuff. I have oily eyelids and most eyeliners just smudge everywhere after a couple of hours on me. This kind never smudged even after 8 1/2 hour work day an...d 3 hour night class. This is a winner in my book! December 13, 2007, 6:31 am

    Dries out too fast

    by egonza15 (71 reviews)

Buying this liner was a waste of my precious money. I have 4 bigtime complaints: 1- the brush is a total mess(Scratchy, hard) 2-the cream dries as you are applying liner-I would have to complete a perfect line in 2 seconds. 3-I have to walk over to my sink to rinse off my liner brush because the cream dries on later resembl...ancing my acrylic paint I used in college art IV. 4-Not even 2 months later, the pot of cream semi-dried to the point of soap consistency. (Believe me, I left on the lid as much as possible even opening the lid so fast you would have thought a rattle snake was inside). Never again will I buy this eyeliner. No wonder it has a average 7 rating. I will stick to Clinique Eyedefining eye liner in Black. September 15, 2008, 8:05 am

    Quality depends on color, apparently

    by mschroed (9 reviews)
I have this in teal, blue, black and eggplant and the blue and eggplant colors are silky in texture and go on lovely, whereas the other two have drier formulas. This works wonderfully with the black (because I can smudge it and the color comes out richly), but the teal is hardly usuable. I have two pots of the teal, so I ...don't think I just got a bad batch. February 23, 2008, 5:14 pm

Great price for the amount and quality!

    by MissIndi (3 reviews)
I own black, midnight blue, and eggplant. All colors are very true...what you see in the packaging is what you get once applied. I love the black...it dries down to a deep matte black. The eyeliner lasts all day without smudging or flaking. It is easity washed off at the end of the day. I actually like these better tha...n MAC Fluidline...the colors are more vivrant than some of the Fluidlines and the texture is creamier. Some complain about the price being high for a drugstore item (about $11-12). However, there is more product in the container than the high end brands and you can ofter find these on sale. By the way...the brush it comes with is difficult to work with so invest in a good eyeliner brush. November 29, 2007, 4:00 pm

    Its okay...

    by alltimelowftw (1 review)
I have been using this eyeliner for about 5 months now, and yes I do wear my eyeliner on the inside part of my eye.. i dunno what thats called though. haha. well sometimes when my eyes get watery the eyeliner actually gets in my eye and floats around and half the time i don't even notice until someone tells me there's black... in my eye, which is quite embarassing. Also after a while the jar that the eyeliner is in starts to smell kinda like play-do and if you leave the lid off for a too long it gets hard and cracks. It also irritates my eyes somedays, so i use my stick eyeliner instead. If you don't have these problems with this eyeliner then it looks great and its quite nice actually, but i'm back to using my plain old stick eyeliner. :) July 19, 2009, 4:22 pm
