Has anyone tried E-Salon Color?

This is a great article. I've recently started coloring my own hair at home due to rapid grays coming in and also the fact that my hair grows alarmingly fast - much too fast to start getting it colored at a salon. Luckily, my natural hair color is black so there isn't much I have to worry about with mistakes. I keep it natural-looking and usually just use what's on sale, but I did just pick up three boxes of Garnier with the bamboo extract and LOVE IT. My hair is left silky, shiny and not smelling like a litterbox. I put on the included gloves and always use a brush and mix the product in a cheap plastic bowl and apply that way. I paint it on and usually leave it on for about 45 minutes, as I've found that most at-home box colors recommend leaving the product on for an additional 5 minutes for extra gray coverage - but that simply doesn't work for my stubborn grays. With all the internet coloring tutorials, all the at-home do-it-yourself options and beauty supply stores, why would anyone pay the extra money at the salon?

These are good products. I use Garnier, and stylists tell me it's one of the most gentle. I also like "Natural Instincts."

i LOVE the excellence creme! the color i got was a little darker than i wanted but after a few washes its great! and the conditioner is awesome!

I used the Clarol Frost & Tip for many years after my hair started showing some grey. When my hair got tothe point of too much grey I saw the Ad about Esalon and desided to try it. They were able to match my hair color from when I was in my 30's close to perfect. I have been VERY happy with the color and the service. The first kit contained everything I would need for further coloring.

As a former cosmetologist, I've learned to stay away from grocery store hair color if I am going to lighten my hair at all. Color in a box is great if you want to cover gray or darken the shade of your hair. But it's always best to stick with a professional when lightening your hair. Or at least use professional products if you know how to lighten/add highlights, etc. Too often color from a box will leave your hair brassy.

Even as a long-time, at-home colorist, I found some new information! Only one I disagree with is L'Oreal Excellence's rating, which is tough for me because I think L'Oreal makes the best hair colors. Excellence, for me, is drying. However, their colors are very true and long lasting. I just prefer Preference ... even better color, lasts longer, the blondes are gorgeous. I haven't tried Frieda, that might be interesting. Thoughts?

I was surprised Perfect 10 wasn't on here. I don't color my hair anymore but when I did I always used that one and it worked amazing.

Frieda products make my hair terribly dry. I stay away from his products, but I know lots of girls who love his products. I've been using L'Oreal for a time, now and as a natural blonde, I always use 'ash blondes' ,so my hair doesn't get brassy. L'Oreal covers the grey really well. My white doesn't color well, but I don't mind and as a natural blonde, all the different natural colors in my hair give me great looking highlights. I always get compliments on my hair color,but I'm going to give Garnier a try, now. Have trepidations about it.... I refuse to spend $75/monthly to have my hair colored. I get a good trim, to get good bounce and then color my hair. No need to waste good color on those dead ends and I always wear my make-up when getting a cut or trim.

I also have started using the John Frieda .I agree that it is an astounding product. Very close to my natural color,4N,Dark Natural Brown is wonderful I have very long hair and I can do this myself Try this girls,Yes you can get salon results @ home with this..Simply wonderful and I am very,very critical about hair hate the grey,this is the next best anti aging tool !

I never thought I could get good at home color using a kit until I tried the John Frieda Foam - Astounding. I love this - have been using it now for six months and my hair has never looked better. I am constantly asked who does my color.

I have been using Revlons Frost & Glow for over 15 years! I use the for medium to dark (or something like that...dark blonde to medium brown..?) anyway, it is absolutely phenominal. My hair is nearly black...VERY dark brown, and the F & Glow brings it up to a very nice shade of blonde, perfect for the color I choose to use at that particular time! Great product.

By far the best at home hair color I have ever used is Root Rehab by Kelly Van Gogh. There are only 9 shades to choose from so it is easy to pick the best shade. It makes your hair so shiny and healthy and the color is really natural and vibrant. Try it, you will love it!

my hair has grey and I use a biege blond it seems to do the job the only thing is I have to redo almost every three weeks is there any other hair product out there that will stop the greys from coming in sooner I also use shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair.

I have natural thick curly latina here, and so far every dye i have tried just to cover my grays, doesn't do much. It fades within 2 weeks, from the cheap ones to the expensive brands. They are a waste of my money.

I have long fine kinky straight hair. I have been dyeing my hair for 15 years now and I have tried everything on the department store shelf. My conclusion, you get what you pay for. If it's on sale...excelent. Feria is good. I love L'Oreal's Mega colors too: Mega Blonds, Mega Browns, and Mega Reds. Nice N Easy from Clairol is another inexpensive choice that I would recomend for a softer less bold but long lasting shiny color. But everyone's hair is different and there are so many dyes and colors out there, good luck finding the one that's right for you.

Garnier color products are the mos drying ones I've ever used. They leave my relaxed hair really dry and stiff.
