Editor Review

Rated a 8.5

There's a reason teenagers reach for this stuff, and why you shouldn't hesitate to when a pimple shows up. It works. This 10 percent benzoyl peroxide cream is the highest percentage of the active ingredient you can buy. It helps heal newly formed pimples and pre-popped or picked ones. Warnings: First, it can be very drying or cause irritation on some skin types, so start by applying once daily. Second, protect your pretty pillowcases -- it will bleach them out.

    works even better if...

I read this article in Allure last year that said there was a study that found benzoyl peroxide to be more effective against acne when mixed 50/50 with butenifine (an antifungal found in a particular type of Lamisil. Since this is not yet available pre-mixed over the counter, I bought and mixed these, tried it on my breako...ut areas and found a big reduction in oiliness, acne and clogged pores. Try it yourself, here's the link to the Allure article if you don't believe me :) http://www.allure.com/magazine/2007/08/Acne_Fighting_Advance April 23, 2008, 1:42 pm

If you have oily skin & white sheets...

    by BeautyAngel (1 review)
... this will be perfect for you! I've been using this product for at least 10 years. It will get rid of acne in about 1-3 days... at least in my experience. It depends on how bad the particular break out is. I'll wash my face before bed (with Clean & Clear's Continuous Control Acne Face Wash), then apply this to the br...oken out areas. Benzoyl Peroxide products seem to be more effective for me over the acne products using Salicylic Acid as the active ingredient. I have VERY oily skin, so if you have dry skin I would avoid this particular product. The only down side to Persa-Gel that I've experienced, is the issue with "bleaching" any fabric it comes in contact with (it does mention this on the tube). I've had to adjust by switching all my sheets, pillow cases and towels to white ones. Make sure not to wear your cute PJs to bed on nights when you use this too. :) February 13, 2009, 5:50 pm

    One Week of Use...

    by ShadoeBoiii (1 review)
I started using Persa-Gel 10 a week ago. I have had problems with my skin for awhile, but it has gotten better over the years. I've tried Pro-Activ, and everything else for that matter. I have oily skin, and I get blackheads really bad on my nose and beneath my eyes. Lately - and I think its because I am getting hair on my ...chin and cheeks, I've been getting breakouts in those areas. I started using the Persa-Gel and it is drying out my skin - and I mean REALLY drying out my skin, which is good, but there is some irritation. Everything is slowly clearing up and my self confidence is getting higher (males and low confidence don't mix well!) I am only applying it once a day too, but then again - everyone's skin is different. Good luck and I hope you find the product thats right for you. May 7, 2008, 10:45 am

    My life saver!!

    by sugarkitten1420 (3 reviews)
This stuff is amazing. It's the ONLY on-the-spot treatment that I have found that seems to make any acne I have completely disappear within a matter of hours (sometimes minutes!!). It has no odor and doesn't burn which is appreciated. It applies evenly and disappears like a moisturizer, which I love because I hate when you ...have to dab a product on (and it's like a white or some weird color) and let it sit until you wash it off (it scares my man!). I like just using it and moving on with my life. Plus you can wear it under make-up & other moisturizers. Honestly, I would cry if it was discontinued. December 10, 2007, 3:12 pm

    i love this stuff!

    by ILuvPink (21 reviews)
i have been breaking out since my early 20s. go hormones! and have tried everything under the sun, including prescription strength. this works the best! at the slightest hint of a breakout, and especially the week before my period, i put this on and the spot clears up almost immediately. cyst-pimples take a couple days, but... still faster than anything else i've tried! Eh, Use White Shirts!

This benzoyl peroxide formula like many others aren't great for sensitive skin and it will dry out some areas so people with dry skin are better off using a medication lotion or moisturizer. Also, as stated, yes, this will bleach just about anything it does come in contact with so be careful how and where you apply it beca...use I have gone through several pajama tops that I had to set aside because the colors had faded on where it had contact with the benzoyl peroxide. Effective? Sometimes. It usually takes me three weeks to get my skin clear with this item but then I get the rough dry patches. November 12, 2007, 9:04 pm

    Sensitive Skin Beware!

    by Lovegirl19888 (7 reviews)
I have sensitive skin and I assume that I could use this. I later found out that I should've started with a lower concentrated formula. I only use this when I get a huge pimple and I have something special coming up soon. But besided the burning and itching of the skin. This product does wonders on the stubborn pimples that... I would never have gotten to go away doing so by myself... April 8, 2008, 9:22 pm

    Works well

I'd say that out of all the drugstore acne medications, this one is the best and probably the strongest. Makes your skin clear quickly with minimal drying (although the dry and flaking skin does happen, but just a litte). After a while your skin might get immune to it (mine did), so you may want to alternate between this ge...l and other acne creams. February 11, 2008, 1:18 pm

I've actually turned many of my friends over to this stuff. It has actually healed a lot of my blemishes overnight. I have yet to find something that works better. Yes it does discolor stuff it comes in contact with (unfortunately my cat decided to rub on me after applying it and now she has a bleached spot on her head).... However, the fact that it works so well makes up for that. December 28, 2007, 9:12 am

    Not for me

    by thefaceless (21 reviews)
I have really bad acne, and this didn't work for me. It did okay for a couple of nights. I use the Murad exfoliating acne gel and the Murad skin perfecting lotion before I put this stuff on, and it does not work for me. I even use it with the Neutrogena's on-the-spot treatment--no luck. I'm 20 years old and have had acn...e since the 6th grade, so maybe my skin is totally immune to all this stuff. May 8, 2008, 1:22 am
