She's already a go-to girl when it comes to setting fashion and even makeup trends (just check out her secret to the perfect cat eye), but now Alexa Chung is setting the trend in nail polish, too. read more
Christian Louboutin, he of crimson-soled-shoe fame, announced that he is releasing an eponymous beauty collection. His first foray is a nail polish line. It makes sense, considering it was an assistant's red nail polish that inspired the red soles of his shoes in 1992. The first shade, Rouge, hits stores on August 6, with 30 remaining shades following on August 31. At $50 a pop, these nail polishes aren't cheap -- but considering the faceted crystal bottle is a work of art in itself, the polishes can double as vanity decor. After all, Louboutins weren't meant to be put in a drawer. read more
You would think picking out a nail polish color would be as simple as putting on your shoes in the morning (you know, once you've decided which pair you're going to wear). But finding a nail polish color that will flatter your skin tone, appear on-trend and keep your hands from looking dull or aged -- that's the challenge. We spoke to Elsbeth Schuetz, celebrity manicurist for Nailtini, and celebrity and editorial manicurist Gina Edwards on how to find the nail color that's right for you. read more
I love anything Fourth-of-July themed (hello red, white and blue cupcakes!), but when it comes to nails, I'm declaring independence from cheesy patriotic designs. The founding fathers totally would have wanted it that way. read more
Truth moment: I have about a million (OK, 87) nail polishes on a rack under my bathroom sink. I wear about three of them on a regular basis. Blame it on my incessant nail biting or my fear of being too trendy, but that's the truth. And when it comes to pairing polishes for my DIY mani-pedi, it's a process. I question everything -- "What if it's too dark? Does this work for the office?" read more

Embracing the "It " shade of the season (anything pastel) doesn't have to mean wearing head-to-toe candy colors and looking like a marshmallow Peep. Incorporating the pastel trend into your makeup and nail routine is an easy way to add a soft touch of color that freshens and brightens your beauty look -- the only thing better than a fresh mani, after all, is one coated in the rosy pinks and buttercup yellows of your "Martha Stewart Living" dreams. Pick up one of these pastel shades for a DIY manicure, or head to the nail salon for festive finger tips that happily announce "spring is here." read more
It's not easy being green, but with the inspired new OPI Muppets Most Wanted collection, it's a cinch to be eight trend-tastic other colors. read more
We have a fickle, ambivalent relationship with nail art. Based on behind-the-scenes declarations from insiders who know, we've declared it dead and over. Kind've. Twice. (See: NYFW Trend Alert: Bare Nails Are In, Polish is Out.) Then we spy incredible, OTT manis, and we love it all over again for its cutting edge genius. Then we see 3-D nail art, and we're all ... love, hate, love hate again. read more
After painting on a coat of Butter London Nail Lacquer in Bumster, use a black Sharpie (or some nail decals) and spell out what's on your mind -- in five letters or less. read more
If you ever thought your nails were unimportant or if you've been neglecting your hands, now is the time to make them a priority. Just like your skin, they can dry out, peel, break, and become infected. Manicures and pedicures are cosmetic procedures that can help you keep your hands and feet healthy by grooming, trimming, buffing, and painting your nails, as well as managing calluses.
Taking Care of Your Nails
Make an effort to take good care of your nails, and you will be thrilled by the way they complement your own personal style. One easy way to keep them healthy is to drink lots of water. By keeping your body hydrated every day, you'll keep them hydrated, as well. Also, touch up your manicure on a daily basis to prevent chips and cracks and avoid using your nails as tools. This means no using them to pry things open, scrape things off, etc.
Other natural ways to keep your nails healthy include drinking fresh carrot juice daily, making sure that you keep them clean and moisturized, and making sure that your nail salon has hygienic practices.
