Smith & Cult is the latest creation from Dineh Mohajer -- the founder of Hard Candy, one of the most beloved beauty brands of the '90s. The new 30-shade collection, cheekily called Nailed Lacquers, is inspired by Mohajer's "Diary of a Beauty Junkie," the fictional journal of what we imagine to be a grown-up Cher Horowitz. read more
Of all the shelf lives of cosmetic products, nail polish sports the longest lifespan. Though experts suggest tossing it two to three years after opening, there's no real reason to throw it out -- it won't grow bacteria like a face wash from junior high might or coagulate like sunscreen from 2005 will. "Nail polish is naturally inhospitable to microorganisms due to the solvents in it," says cosmetic chemist Don Frey. Though it might get goopier over the years, it's not a danger to your health. read more

Christian Louboutin, he of crimson-soled-shoe fame, announced that he is releasing an eponymous beauty collection. His first foray is a nail polish line. It makes sense, considering it was an assistant's red nail polish that inspired the red soles of his shoes in 1992. The first shade, Rouge, hits stores on August 6, with 30 remaining shades following on August 31. At $50 a pop, these nail polishes aren't cheap -- but considering the faceted crystal bottle is a work of art in itself, the polishes can double as vanity decor. After all, Louboutins weren't meant to be put in a drawer. read more
If you ever thought your nails were unimportant or if you've been neglecting your hands, now is the time to make them a priority. Just like your skin, they can dry out, peel, break, and become infected. Manicures and pedicures are cosmetic procedures that can help you keep your hands and feet healthy by grooming, trimming, buffing, and painting your nails, as well as managing calluses.
Taking Care of Your Nails
Make an effort to take good care of your nails, and you will be thrilled by the way they complement your own personal style. One easy way to keep them healthy is to drink lots of water. By keeping your body hydrated every day, you'll keep them hydrated, as well. Also, touch up your manicure on a daily basis to prevent chips and cracks and avoid using your nails as tools. This means no using them to pry things open, scrape things off, etc.
Other natural ways to keep your nails healthy include drinking fresh carrot juice daily, making sure that you keep them clean and moisturized, and making sure that your nail salon has hygienic practices.
