Over the last five or so years, mascara wands have morphed from simple to seriously kooky. First, there was an onslaught of rubber, spiky brushes (like CoverGirl Lashblast Volume Mascara). Then, vibrating wands had their five minutes of fame (see: Lancome Oscillation Mascara). And who can forget the terrifying Givenchy Phenomen' Eyes, which looked a bit like a Medieval torture device? read more
MAC surprised us today with an early online launch of the new Tropical Taboo Collection -- a sizzling lineup that's a thousand times hotter than "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights." The vivid, shimmering color collection, on sale today online and in stores June 27, brings the heat, with an emphasis on glamorous eye shadows, bold lip colors, and super-shiny lip glosses. Kudos to the team for the up-tempo names, like "Cha-Cha-Cha" and "Calypso Beat" -- they kinda take us to a Latin boogie happy place. read more
As a sunshine devotee, summer solstice is one of my favorite days of the year. Sadly, most of us don't engage in any ancient midsummer rituals anymore (drinking beers at your neighbor's bonfire doesn't count). So we're in favor of instituting a bit of a summer beauty ritual to celebrate our planet's closest tilt towards the sun. Get your fill of light with these summer makeup looks that are causing a blaze on Pinterest. Perhaps your bright looks will even ward off the evil spirits that start to return with the sun's southward turn (evil spirits in this case would mean blocked pores, wrinkles, or melted makeup). read more
The summer beauty mantra will always be: sunscreen, sunscreen, and more sunscreen. But there's so much more to it. Your skin isn't the only thing exposed to brutal hot weather elements. Walking from your car to the office can leave your face looking like a Salvador Dali painting, nevermind the full-scale attack on your hair from the scorching sun, chlorinated pool water, or relentless humidity. It's enough to make a girl stay barefaced and in a permanent ponytail all summer long. read more
When MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick launched online in May, it sold out faster than we could finish our lunch. But MAC promised it would be back, and we've had a mental countdown going ever since. We're finally in the home stretch: the new RiRi Loves MAC collection drops tomorrow at noon EST on maccosmetics.com. read more
We've been talking about Marc Jacobs Beauty -- the nail polishes in particular -- since New York Fashion Week in February. But it's all been very hush-hush -- an Instagram picture here, a website teaser there. That is, until today's WWD reveal. read more

Target has launched a new tutorial video with some great, easy-to-follow tips for a gorgeous smoky eye. The brand tapped makeup artist and founder of the Pixi makeup line, Petra Strand, to show her best advice to create a smoky eye using Pixi Lid & Line in Smoky Olive, $18. This three-in-one pencil has a liner, shadow, and smudger, so you can pull off the day-to-night look with one simple product. In the video, Strand shows how to elongate the line of your eye to create a cat eye look, and then add more pigment using the powder pressed shadow inside the pencil. Next, she uses the smudger to blend the powder up over the lid. To finish the look, she uses Pixi Large Lash Mascara in Bold Black, $18. Another great tip: In order to get mascara truly at the root and lengthen your lashes, make sure you look down as you're applying. Watch the video to see Strand apply the smoky look! read more
