No. 1: John Frieda Luxurious Volume All Out Hold Hairspray, $6.49

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 9.8*
Why: This hairspray almost got a 10 out of 10 from readers who think it is "like cement" because it holds so well, but "without being overly sticky and dry." One reader guarantees that this hairspray "will hold your hair in place" no matter what. "Humidity, windy weather, rain -- you name it!" she says. And, "if you like big hair, you won't want to miss this!"

Good to know

I don't use hair spray much because I am always afraid it will make my hair all stiff, crunchy & sticky feeling. I like Suave's root volume spray, it gives you a firm hold without getting too hard. I use it all over since it seems more gentle than other sprays.

I rarely use hairspray, but it is good to see what to buy next.

I use Paul Mitchell on my curls. it may be a little more pricey, but it lasts longer.

though I don't use hairspray on a daily basis, this list is extremely helpful!

this is an incredibly helpful list! i love touching my hair and there are a lot of choices here that actually still allow you to touch your soft, but styled hair. i will have to investigate more and decide on which one to try!

I'm glad there are ones that make it so your hair stays without getting crunchy!
