  • Fine wines get more expensive and appreciated the longer they sit collecting dust on your shelf. Cheese gets praise for mold. Classic cars are worth more than anyone in their right mind would have ever paid for them when they were new. So, what's the trend here? Well, unlike people and celebrities, aged products are valued. And beauty products are no exception. Any product that women continue to love and pass on to their daughter's daughter because they work so darn well, should be appreciated, celebrated and well, on this list of the 14 best classic beauty products.

  • I kid you not, last month in about one week's time, four of my friends told me they were pregnant. Two of them are having their second child, but for the other two, who are having their first baby, I can imagine that they're being smothered with everyone's opinions about what they should and shouldn't do while preggers (here are 8 no-nos to follow when you're preg-o). But instead of being the bearer of bad gestational news, I'm going to share with you the best beauty products for moms-to-be. The following products are not only safe for moms-to-be, but will also help with pregnancy-related woes like stretch marks and acne, so say TotalBeauty.com readers anyway. Check 'em out …

  • As a beauty editor, constantly interviewing makeup artists, hairstylists, and skin care gurus, I hear boatloads of beauty tips. Some are bologna, I won't lie -- filler that experts have said so many times to so many people they don't even hear themselves say it. Some are boring (i.e. don't pop pimples yourself and wash your face twice a day). And some are pure gold, beauty tips that are so great, they deserve to be mined out and brought to their proper light -- diamonds-in-the-rough tips.

  • While doing some fragrance research the other day (a nerdy thing only beauty writers do), I got wind of a fabulous app -- the iPerfumer. It's a perfume concierge by Givaudan (a company that creates fragrances for a ton of popular brands) that's free of charge. Upon this discovery, I did some more digital digging and found what I think are the 5 best beauty apps. They're pretty sweet. Have you tried a beauty life-changing app that's not on this list (like Total Beauty's nifty product-finding app)? Do share.

  • It happened one (not so special) Sunday. I was perusing the beauty counter at Bloomingdale's for a beauty product I most likely didn't need, but one that might fill some unknown emotional void … c'mon, you know you do it too. While I typically like to be left alone and avoid eye contact with the often over zealous salespeople, I was feeling particularly chipper and decided to engage with a smiling woman cloaked in black. Besides, I've read the Nice Girls Guide to Pushy Salespeople and have finally learned it's OK to say "no thank you" when offered a spray of something that smells like my great aunt Ingrid.

  • So, I secretly love infomercials. There I said it. And, I don't just watch them to lull me to sleep during bouts of insomnia. I actually seek them out. I "stay up" to be sold on a Ped Egg and tweezers with a light up tip that comes with a free magnifying mirror and a bathrobe -- if I "call within the next ten minutes." I'm the sucker that bought Oxy Clean from Billy Mays (may he rest in peace) at 3am on a not-so-spectacular Friday night. I had a Chia Pet, a Bedazzler and currently still wear my Snuggie on cold afternoons. I'm the girl that uses the best "As seen on TV" hair care products, and I love them.

  • The highest level of beauty comes from within -- from paying it forward and helping our fellow man. Not to get preachy, but it is so easy to take our health for granted and to go about our daily lives consumed by our own miniature stresses. So naturally, we love to be reminded by communities, especially the beauty community, that others need our help. Leave it to the world's largest luxury beauty brand Lancome, to do just that: remind us to show our humanity through the power of our beauty, the beauty of the human spirit.
