    Great exfoliator!

I love this exfoliator! It's gentle and feels great on my skin as I'm using it. I didn't experience any redness and my skin didn't feel dry (which sometimes happens with other products like this). My skin felt very refreshed and clean after use :)

    Worth a try

My friend who works for MAC gave me a sample of this and when she said Volcanic Ash and I asked her to repeat herself- say whaaat?? She advised to use it no more than twice a week and I see why, Although it claims to lather, it is slightly abrasive-but then again a good exfoliant should be (think St. Ives x2) Not only did it make my skin feel super soft and smooth, it also looked luminous. Bottom line: I was impressed by the sample and would buy the product.

Its ok, but has some flaws

I bought this on the recommendation of the sales girl (i know, I'm prolly a sucker). I love that it foams up into a cleanser, and the smell is unique (i like it, but i bet some people don't). It doesn't leave my skin too dry, which is great, but the scrubbing bits are jagged and uneven, and can sometimes hurt if you get a little overzealous in scrubbing. I like it, but I won't be rebuying.

    Unique

I bought the MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator based on amazing reviews all over. A bit overrated I must say. It is limited edition so temptation kicks in... I want to have an extra just in case. Although the actual product isn't that great. Blahblahblah, real volcanic ash we get it. The sugar crystals? Painful! They scratch my skin & cause inflammation if I don't wet my hands before & after I a...read morepply! Too MUCH water will melt the crystals & I won't be able to exfoliate. It's not like my face isn't already sopping wet too! The MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator smells earthy & ashy, not good for sensitive noses. I would say it's a little expensive but it isn't as if we have a load of volcanic ash resourses. The product itself also doesn't really do much for my skin. My skin feels fresh & clean after using it but I don't see any less or more in pimples.

    Is the BFD!

This stuff is really the BFD (Big friggin Deal). I hope they make it permanent one day as this stuff is super awesome! It is a gritty scrub and it leaves your skin sooo smoothe and baby soft.

    My HG exfoliator.

Love love love this stuff. Now I do have to admit it is a little weird. I'm not a fan of the black, but whatever works. And it does smell, but I think it has a more floral scent to it. But my skin is SOOO soft after I use it. I can get past the smell and color for a good working product!

    Weird, but awesome

MAC's Volcanic Ash Exfoliator is exactly what it sounds like: an exfoliant made from volcanic ash. But wait, there's more! This ash comes from live volcanoes on Vanuatu - yes, that Vanuatu - the one made famous in Survivor. Nice. I have to admit, I'm a bit weirded out by this. It is black and gritty. Now, of course, most exfoliants are gritty - they include those little scrubby things. This...read more exfoliant is made of ash (which contains sulfur, wow and ick) and sugar crystals. This stuff is pungent. It's not funky, or anything, but it smells ... earthy is the best word for it, I guess. It smells like what I think a rainforest would smell like. Now, keep in mind, I have never been to an actual rainforest, so I have no frame of reference - this is just what I would imagine a rainforest smells like. I do have a very active imagination, for what it's worth. Anyway, I am happy to have pungent, earthy, famous ash on my face, I guess. However, I did freak myself out when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I looked like I was putting on blackface paint or something. It was bizarre. Having said all that, though, this stuff does work. My face felt like a baby's butt afterward - very, very soft and smooth. So, if you can get past the smell and the weirdness, you'll be pleased with the results, I think.
