I love LUSH. ***WHY I LOVE THEIR COMPANY: They have great products that are unique and fun, and the company is great as well. The co-creators are quirky and cool, the products are minimally packaged to reduce waste, they are against animal testing (they use human volunteers instead), they use ethically sourced ingredients, they use only vegetarian ingredients, they genuinely are a “green” company (in terms of their energy use, recycling/composting/re-using, using wind and low-impact hydro-electric power), and they get involved in ethical campaigns. It's a company that I LIKE to buy things from and am always excited to find new things to buy there. ***WHY I LOVE THIS PRODUCT: A very nice LUSH employee suggested I try this after I asked about trying a facial cleanser that would be good for my very oily, acne-prone skin. She swore that she used this product herself, and that it worked wonders, especially in combination with the Ocean Salt face scrub. I haven't tried the little sample of the salt face scrub, but I did decide to buy a small chunk of the Coalface. It's AMAZING. It is a little messy since it leaves gray residue, and I personally think it's a little spendy for soap (well, spendier than the drugstore acne products, but less than department store acne products). But it's really an amazing product—it's helped my skin clear up so much! I use my Clean & Clear makeup dissolving wipes to get off the makeup, and then I use Coalface to get my face squeaky clean (literally, squeaky clean!) It's a little bit drying, so it's best for people with really oily skin (although my boyfriend loves to steal it and use it, even though his skin is normal, and no acne). My only complaint is that the pieces of soap aren't perfectly rectangular (yes, a weird pet peeve, but still). In spite of that, I've already used up one bar of soap and am on to my second. I will definitely be repurchasing this over and over, since it's one of the few products that have kept my skin relatively clear. — 8 months, 4 weeks ago

Is it the actual soap I love, or just the idea of the soap?

I love the idea of the charcoal, and what charcoal does. This is a very cool product. I don't love the fact that my teenage daughters are always snagging the bars I have because they love it too, but can't blame a girl for wanting something good. — 9 months ago

Great for oily skin

I really like this face wash, though not my favorite by lush it is my number 2( I alternate between this and Fresh Farmacy by Lush). Don't let the color scare you, It really doesn't make your skin black. It makes my skin feel really clean and oil free. This stuff rids of every drop of oil, so you might have to use a moisturizer after depending on your skin type. I don't because I don't want to add more oil to my skin. I think this is one of the best facial cleansers I have ever tried. Way better than drugstore brands and it'snatural. I don't get much of an exfoliating feel from this. I feel a little scrubbing action but don't expect a rough exfoliation. If you have oily, acne prone skin like myself, it's perfect. No acids or chemicals but it does help clear up the skin. You just have to be patient and not expect it to happen over night. — 2 years, 6 months ago

I went to the store in Las Vegas ...could not resist ...everything in the store smelled so good...I was referred to this product by one of the sales people....the one I bought was an exfoliant type of cleanser ...it was exactly what I have been searching for , for my oily skin. however, I have skin that's really oily in some places and fairly normal, bordering on dry in others and I find that this helps even it out and isn't too drying. In fact I use this one in the morning because I can count on it not being drying enough to turn my face into an oil slick under my makeup by lunch. It takes a little getting used to, using a bar for your face, but it really lasts forever and I have noticed a HUGE improvement in my skin since I started using it. I have only been using this soap for a few days and I already notice a difference. I have oily skin and usually have a blemish or two. After a few days my skin is already clearer and smoother, I see why this is a best seller. Has a unique smell, but if you can get past that great product. Good for oily and combination skin

Especially in the summer months. I'm betting that sufferers of back breakouts would do really well with this product. Don't expect a great smell - it literally smells like coal or tar, and can be a bit messy what with the black flakes everywhere and all. I have always had pretty good skin but my husband joined the military and we moved away from our hometown. With all the stress of deployment, the move, three children and living in a new place. Also the new climate my face and chest started breaking out so bad I would not leave the house. I tried EVERYTHING a million different face washes, moisturizers and treatments. I heard about Lush products in a Army Wives group that I am in. I am always willing to try new products especially all natural products as I try to stay as organic as I can. So I drove to our local store in Seattle and spent massive amounts of money...brought it home and I am IN LOVE with all of the. Especially the COAL FACE WASH.
