I generally steer clear of pencils for fear that they'll be too hard, too soft or too difficult to sharpen. But this forest management-friendly little guy gives me hope. Though the rich color isn't waterproof, it doesn't smudge or fade unless you work at it. The plastic cap isn't easily lost, as it fits snugly over the firm, creamy tip. Drawing a fine line is easy, but watch out for crumbs if the tip is too sharp.

One of my least favorite Aveda products.
by CantDeleteMyProfile (7 reviews)I am a huge fan of Aveda prodcuts, but the Petal Essence Eye Definer is at the bottom of my list. While I like the variety of colors they offer, the pencil just does not last. It smudges way too easily, for one thing. If you use it on your top lid, you are guaranteed to have that little half-moon of liner pressed onto your ...upper lid. Even if I do not line my lower lash line, I still get a ton of smudging under my eye. I am hardly a make-up newbie, and I haven't found a single application technique that will prevent this from going everywhere. Secondly, even if I get the pencil to stay somewhere where it's supposed to be, the color does not last but for a couple of hours. I find myself having to reapply it frequently. Yikes! If you are searching for an eye pencil that gives you a long-lasting, stay-in-place look, then skip this product. April 28, 2008, 10:46 am3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This Definer is Great
by Tyler1 (3 reviews)I also have had trouble finding a product that beats this. Aveda is known for superior products, and the slightly higher cost is generally worth it. This product is no exception... doesn't smudge, not too hard and gets the job done. I love it! February 9, 2008, 7:33 am2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Great Look - Goes on Easily
by beachgal_blonde (3 reviews)I have used the Black Orchid and the Wild Indigo and they go on very easily. The make-up artist at an Aveda Salon I go to, showed me how to use the Wild Indigo as a shadow as well - easy to apply. November 13, 2007, 9:17 am1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Eh...
by RavenLoudspeakr (240 reviews)Top 100 ReviewerTrusted ReviewThis pencil sure is pretty LOL. From the frosted cap to the really nice wood body, you can automatically tell this pencil isn't from a convenient store. It's typical price for Aveda, and has a really nice rose scent. I have this in navy, and it sharpens easily without breaking and draws a nice creamy line without tugging my... eye area. However, it might just be my oily skin or something but it smudges like crazy! The pencil itself lasts a long time because you don't need to really rub it in for the color but the product on my face doesn't last. Stars off! smooth, but no staying power.
by TheEllster (16 reviews)I really appreciate the eco-friendly design of this pencil, and it does go on very smoothly and true in color. However, it smudges easily (only a good thing if you're going for that!) and fades quickly. I will look for another eyeliner when this runs out. My favorite pencil liner
by teshie (389 reviews)Top 10 ReviewerTrusted ReviewI usually use liquid eyeliner, but when I'm in a hurry or don't want too fine a line, I reach for this. It glides on like silk, leaving a bold, even stroke of color that lasts all day. Still, I really don't like spending $12 on a pencil, and this one isn't self-sharpening, so it doesn't last long. not the best
by skywalker (102 reviews)Top 500 ReviewerFor me the eyeliner flaked and smudged and was not lasting. I like the Aveda line, but this liner fell short. November 2, 2008, 1:33 pm0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It's a Pencil - It Works!!
by Schell (8 reviews)I had not used a pencil eyeliner for over 10 years, but my hairdresser told me Aveda's makeup had certainly been improved on over the last 10 years, so I bit. And I must say I am happy, happy. It is soft so it doesn't pull and is easy to put on. I find the trick is to lay the pencil at lash line and gently sweep from the in...side to outer corner, and presto, it's on, it's done, it looks nice, ready to walk out the door. And yes, I like the eco-friendly aspect. August 18, 2008, 11:38 am0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Aveda Petal Essence Eye Definer
by Msgulfkat (10 reviews)It's very difficult to find a pencil that will work for both brow and eye, but this one works wonders. The color palette worked well with my very pale skin and dark eyes. May 21, 2008, 6:09 pm0 of 0 people found this review helpful.
