I generally steer clear of pencils for fear that they'll be too hard, too soft or too difficult to sharpen. But this forest management-friendly little guy gives me hope. Though the rich color isn't waterproof, it doesn't smudge or fade unless you work at it. The plastic cap isn't easily lost, as it fits snugly over the firm, creamy tip. Drawing a fine line is easy, but watch out for crumbs if the tip is too sharp.

    One of my least favorite Aveda products.

    I am a huge fan of Aveda prodcuts, but the Petal Essence Eye Definer is at the bottom of my list. While I like the variety of colors they offer, the pencil just does not last. It smudges way too easily, for one thing. If you use it on your top lid, you are guaranteed to have that little half-moon of liner pressed onto your ... Even if I do not line my lower lash line, I still get a ton of smudging under my eye. I am hardly a make-up newbie, and I haven't found a single application technique that will prevent this from going everywhere. Secondly, even if I get the pencil to stay somewhere where it's supposed to be, the color does not last but for a couple of hours. I find myself having to reapply it frequently. Yikes! If you are searching for an eye pencil that gives you a long-lasting, stay-in-place look, then skip this product. April 28, 2008, 10:46 am

    This Definer is Great

    I also have had trouble finding a product that beats this. Aveda is known for superior products, and the slightly higher cost is generally worth it. This product is no exception... doesn't smudge, not too hard and gets the job done. I love it! February 9, 2008, 7:33 am

    i have problems finding eye pencils that are smooth and soft enough to not iritate my eyes. this one is versatile and very "easy on the eyes" ha ha December 8, 2007, 3:46 pm

    Great Look - Goes on Easily

    I have used the Black Orchid and the Wild Indigo and they go on very easily. The make-up artist at an Aveda Salon I go to, showed me how to use the Wild Indigo as a shadow as well - easy to apply. November 13, 2007, 9:17 am

    It's a Pencil - It Works!!

    I had not used a pencil eyeliner for over 10 years, but my hairdresser told me Aveda's makeup had certainly been improved on over the last 10 years, so I bit. And I must say I am happy, happy. It is soft so it doesn't pull and is easy to put on. I find the trick is to lay the pencil at lash line and gently sweep from the in...     It's very difficult to find a pencil that will work for both brow and eye, but this one works wonders. The color palette worked well with my very pale skin and dark eyes. May 21, 2008, 6:09 pm

    Not my cup of tea

    I didn't like this eyeliner one bit. It doesn't go on smoothly and it doesn't really give that bold of a color. It also has a tendency to smudge very easily and doesn't stay on that long. April 23, 2008, 9:49 am

    Great Eyeliner

    I use the Clove (although I think this color is discontinued)and I love it because it goes will all colors of my eye shadow. The color is perfect. April 22, 2008, 3:16 pm

  • Smudge a thin line softly along the upper lash line for a subtle effect. For more intensity, or to create the illusion of thicker lashes, apply more heavily.
