This is indeed an astringent, a cleaning device with salacylic acid that works for those with surface pimples. This product is good because it's inexpensive and works for those with surface pimples (papule). This product does work as good for those with deep surface acne . It burns a lot more if the skin is dirtier. It will burn anyways because of the acid. The peeling occurs could be the cause of frequent use due to skin not being cleared yet. I typically use this 2 or 3 days in a row and have no peeling because the SURFACE bumps/pimples disappear after 2 days. Clean and Clear great daily use

Use every night before bed
I'm not sure exactly why I'm still using this product everynight when it still doesn't seem to minimize my breakouts. I guess I like the smell and feel of my skin after I apply it to my face. Great product/great value!
