    What's all the hype?

    by smiliniowan (7 reviews)
I kept reading everywhere that this was teh best moisturizer around, that it would make my skin glow, that I'd fall in love with it...Nope, just a standard run-of-the-mill moisturizer. My dry skin is also acne-prone so I didn't expect miracles or anything. But there was nothing spectacular about this. I keep seeing comme...nts about the smell; it didn't really bother me. Maybe this is a great find for those with "normal" skin, but for anyone with skin issues (sensitivity, dryness, acne), save your money. I'm going back to Origins- I really do glow when I use that! Good Product!

    by Sabrineh (7 reviews)
My skin changes based on the hot/cold seasons. It gets super, super dry and flaky during the winter and spring months and super oily during the summer and fall months. I loved this product for my "cold" seasons. It moisturized my skin and hydrated and absorbed into my skin so well. It did smell a little funny ...at first but I got used to after several applications. I wouldn't recommend if you have oily skin though or if your skin changes with the seasons. The richness of the cream totally made me break out when I used it during the first week of summer. May 7, 2008, 2:08 pm

    Highly recommended!

I got this as part of the "Makeup Optional" set (also highly recommended) and have quickly become a Philosophy devotee. I've never felt a moisturizer like this, it makes my skin feel really great and along with the other products I really do feel like it's improving my skin so that I don't have to wear as much ma...keup. My only complaint is the lack of sun protection; I like to have this in my moisturizer so that I don't have to worry about whether my makeup has it or not (and so I don't have to wear makeup with spf). However, I've already ordered their moisturizer that DOES have spf, so I'm hoping that will be as amazing as this is, with the added benefit of sun protection! April 23, 2008, 9:10 am

Funky odor, but great looking skin

    by jlanzone (25 reviews)
I am a HUGE fan of philosophy. They do not test on animals and their products actually deliver. I have to be honest. I was going to post a review and when I checked out other reviews, I noticed a common concern regarding the odor of this particular product. I thought about it and couldn't remember if the odor was that bad. ...I went to my bathroom and pulled my hope in a jar out of my drawer and took a deep draw into my nose. There is definitely a medicine type odor. Yes, it could have a more pleasant aroma, but I'm not willing to sacrifice results for something that smells like roses. My skin texture is improving since I have started using this product (a couple of weeks) I have no intentions of stopping anytime soon. March 18, 2008, 3:58 pm

    A nice product from Philosophy

I bought a 2 ounce jar of this in March, and I still have plenty. I use it only at night because there is no SPF. I don't love the lavender scent (it's hard to make a lavender scent that smells as good or better than the actual plant), but the scent doesn't seem to linger. This doesn't add redness to my skin, which is a ...major requirement for me. My face and neck feel soft and the cream does not make my skin break out, as some moisturizers have a tendency to do. It's a little pricey for me, but I do plan to buy another jar once this one runs out. Try to get a sample before you buy, because this seems to be a product that people either love or hate. not for everyone.

    by beccamoore_14 (4 reviews)
when i first heard about this product i was so excited to try it. i have combination skin that rarely has any break-outs. the first night i used it i noticed that it didn't really absorb into my skin, but instead left little beady things on my face. i continued using it though, hoping that i would achieve the fantastic resu...lts like the women i had read about...but instead after a week the only thing that happened is my face broke out and i got a weird rash! I've never really had sensitive skin, so I'm not sure what happened. obviously Hope In A Jar does work wonderfully for some, but BEWARE! this product is not for everyone. January 11, 2008, 9:59 am

    It stinks, but it works

    by Trillion (1 review)
Yes it smells horrible, but I'm on my third jar of the stuff because it does something to my skin that nothing else has been able to do. Someone else called it lavender... perhaps that's what it is. I've always hated lavender. Every time I use the cream I think of wet dog but it does go away (after quite a bit of time, b...ut it does fade). Just a warning, though: if you go to bed before it is fully soaked in, your pillows will smell like soggy doggy (or lavender I suppose-- same thing to me). My skin is smoother and clearer thanks to this stuff so I'll put up with the stench. I'm also prone to breakouts and have oily skin, but this does not give me any problems. In fact, I think it's actually helped me. (I do use Retin A at night, and was using it for 2 years before I even started using this) I put HIAJ on both in the am and pm. January 2, 2008, 10:00 am

    Wouldn't be without it

    by nvenice (11 reviews)
I discovered this last year when someone gave me the Miracle Worker gift set. Now, I would rather give up my kids than my moisturizer. Well, almost. I'm 43 years old and have just started seeing some "smile lines" on my face - this stuff beat them into submission from the first use. Seriously, I'm quite certai...n that within a week of daily use my smile lines were about half as noticeable as before. Need I say more? Okay, maybe I wouldn't rather give up my kids, but my husband? That's another story. January 1, 2008, 8:04 pm

Love this one (after getting used to the smell)

    by sandoz28 (3 reviews)
I really dislike the smell of lavender, so it took me awhile to get over the smell of this cream. However, it works so well for my skin that I can overlook it! The cream itself is a very light texture, so it doesn't make me too oily, but it moisturizes my combo skin well (even the dry patches). I also love that I don't need... to use much to get a great result. I do really wish that they'd make a version with SPF in it, since I often want to use this during the day w/o adding an extra product (sunscreen). November 30, 2007, 1:10 pm

    Eye irritating and stinks!

    by reachtrita (22 reviews)

I totally dislike this moisturizer! It smells aweful, strong medicine-like scent. The most trouble I have is that it makes me extremely teary even if I use it FAR away from my eyes! (bottoms of cheeks and top part of forehead). I thought it would go away if I use it for a while but it didn't, I had to use the rest of the ja...r on my body rather than throw it away. My husband also dislikes the smell, he would comment when I use it. I'm not crazy about the texture either, seems like it doesn't absorbs well, like it's just sitting on top of the skin and when it's dry, it rubs off in small pieces when you apply other products on top of it. It also leaves your skin SHINY rather than glowy. I'm very disappointed for reading good things about it but only experienced bad things from it. I've used many more Philosophy products because of the cute packaging and fresh ideas but never have bought a second one of the same because I wasn't impressed with the products and will review them later.
