Maybelline New York Great Lash Washable Mascara

"America's No.1 mascara" lives up to its name: It's No.1 in sales ... and in heated debate by women. OK, so we admit it's not the most lengthening, volumizing formula. (The curved-brush version helps.) It can also smudge in humidity. (Try waterproof.) And while it applies well wet, flaking and clumping can occur if you let it dry between coats (not recommended). As a short-lashed contact-lens wearer, I love its natural look and washability. And for less than five bucks? It's worth a shot.

December 11, 2007, 10:03 pm This mascara simply isn't good and is the most overrated cosmetic on the planet. It's cheap in cost because it's cheap in delivery - to your lashes. I KNOW cosmetics and I've sincerely tried to discover what in the world people see in this product. When it finally decides to dry, it hardens and makes lashes feel stiff. Adding a second coat only makes it worse. It's safe to say that there are 50 other mascaras better than this one. Some may cost a bit more, but c'mon, we're talking about our eyes - they deserve good products. December 11, 2007, 10:03 pm

June 3, 2008, 4:22 pm I have been using this mascara for so many years, and on the occasion when I tried something else, I have always been sadly disappointed. I love this because it washes off easily. I cannot stand the waterproof brands because I end up getting oily gook in my eyes, and I have contacts - not a good mix. I also have rather small, sparse lashes. This mascara does just enough to make them look good, and once again, because it washes off easily, my lashes are not torn out rubbing and pulling to get the product off. Once last thing, the price is very reasonable. There is more product in this packaging than many, if not all, of the other mascaras out there, so the price per fl. oz cannot be beat. This mascara is easy to find at nearly any drugstore and is very affordable, but that is where the pros for this product begin and end. I find this mascara to be very clumpy. You always end up having to wipe of the excess mascara on your lashes so it doesn't look like you have a few bug carcasses (black clumps) attached to your lashes. This mascara never seems to reach every lash, nor does it seem to lenghten or do much of anything. When I wore this mascara it irrated my eyes as well. Will not be purchasing this again. I've had this mascara since middle school when it first came out. I love it! It's great for grabbing my lower lashes and darkening them. I cannot see how anyone could not love this mascara. December 27, 2007, 10:46 am Worst product ever made - no idea why anyone would like this. The fame that this product has is one of the best marketing and PR scams I have ever seen. The formula is wet, takes 7 minutes to dry which leads to getting rings under your eyes and on your lids. No such thing as layering this mascara bc of the time it takes for each coat to dry. The bristles are very far apart which is good for separating and leaving you with lashes that are 1 centimeter apart from eachother. The formula is not long wearing, its just horrible. Don't even waste your $. I would give it zero stars if possible. December 27, 2007, 10:46 am

    Still my favorite mascara

    by carmines_mommy (3 reviews)
I can never stray from this mascara. Everytime I try a new mascara I keep going back to this. It even beats out the super expensive mascara that you'd buy in a department store. And I can use it for a very long time. Its also nice to mix it with other mascara's. It gives you that extra lift and length. October 26, 2007, 9:56 am

If you're not looking to volumize, lengthen, or add much effect to your eyelashes, this basically can just substitute for a clear gel adding more hold for any eyelash curling with a hint of color. The watermelon color themed tube doesn't appeal me to either, it screams so retro as this item has never been repackaged and I can even recall my aunt having this in her dresser during her high school days decades ago. I'm not fond of not nor of the boring wand that seems to do nothing to flatter my eyelashes and I must admit, my eyelashes are already quite long but just a bit sparse on the ends and it has a curl so when I apply this, it shouldn't take too much effort defining them. Wrong. It takes about three to four coats at the ends to see a major difference. Spare the five bucks and add a dollar or two more on the better mass retailed mascaras that outperform this a million times over. May 15, 2008, 4:39 am

April 18, 2008, 10:21 am Although lowest in price in comparison to many others on the market, this one is my favorite. I have used Maybelline's Great Lash in Brown-Black for years. I have never had a reason to complain about the way that it wears. I love how it goes on and stays put. It doesn't clump, isn't sticky and makes my lashes look natural. I recently switched to a more expensive brand just to see if it did what it claimed and it made my eyelashes sticky, and clumped. Throughout the day it felt as if the mascara had never dried. What a disappointment that was! Great Lash is the best value on the market I have found. I am going back to my Maybelline! April 18, 2008, 10:21 am

December 9, 2007, 6:01 pm This was the first mascara that I ever tried using when I started wearing makeup. All my friends recommended it, and it was cheap too, which seemed great. But, I didnt like it because it went on way too wet and smudgy. I have short lashes, so it was hard for me to get full coverage without smudging all around my eyes to get it on thick enough. I'll never understand why people recommend this mascara. Ive tried a lot of mascaras looking for the best product, and my favorite that Ive been sticking with is Maybelline's Lash Discovery mini-brush waterproof mascara. I love the mini brush because its the only one Ive found that lets me put it on accurately without mess. And I choose waterproof because Ive found that it holds curl better than the washable one. I have bought about three tubes in my lifetime just to make sure the one I had hadn't gone bad or something but this mascara (no matter which one of the three I used) was not as good as everyone say. In fact, I can think of about 10 mascaras off the top of my head that work wonders far more than this. It lifts and darkens sure..but what about separation, lengthening, and volumizing? I guess Great Lash didn't think of these when being designed. November 29, 2007, 1:38 pm
