Ditch Oily Hair (Like Megan Fox Did) for Good -- With Help From These Tips
- Posted by Total Beauty on 03/05/2010 at 4:48pm

Oily hair got you down? Join the club. Heck, even Megan Fox gets the greasies. She even tweeted an apology for having shown up at last year's MTV Awards with less than clean strands -- see photo proof here. (Her face is always kinda oily too but that's another problem -- one these top-rated products will help solve.)
But seriously, the only thing more annoying than having greasy locks is trying to find a shampoo that will work to get 'em clean without drying them out.
Good news, TotalBeauty.com readers told us which products help keep oily hair at bay and I'm gonna share a few with you. So now you can't say I never gave you anything.
Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion, $23
Readers say this hair powder will "add more of a matte look" to shiny, oily strands. "Once I put a small amount in my hair, it automatically becomes thick and voluminous," claims one reader. See how they recommending using it here.
Bumble and bumble Sumowax, $27
Because it doesn't have any of "that hardness some waxes provide," readers love this styling aid. They say it's "strong without being sticky or flaky like the gels of yesteryear," and "your hair will still seem natural and have movement." See more raves about Sumowax.
Paul Mitchell Spray Wax, $13.95
Readers say it's perfect for "fine" and "thin" hair that is oil-prone, because it is "flexible," "workable" and "doesn't weigh" hair down. "My stick-straight, fine hair actually had a shape to it," raves one woman. "It gives perfect definition." See how they rate its holding power here.
Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo, $5.59
It "removes all traces of residue from your hair, be it from styling products, every day buildup, or too heavy of a conditioner." "I have an oily scalp and this is the ONLY thing keeping me sane right now!" says one reader. See what this does above all else.
Herbal Essences Drama Clean Refreshing Conditioner, $7.69
One reader says it "works fabulously on my very fine, thin, and terribly oily hair." While another swears it "gives your hair "tons of body" and is light enough to leave it "moisturized" without weighing it down."

I've always liked Neutrogena's Anti-Residue Shampoo. It's one of few products that is affordable and does exactly what it advertises. I also keep hearing about this Jonathan Product Green Rootine Dry Shampoo that is supposed to be great if you don't have time for a full wash. I first read about it on The Beauty Girl website and it uses talc to absorb the dirt in your hair and ward off that unkempt, oily look.
