No. 7: Avon ANEW BEAUTY Eye-Lifting Serum Shadow, $10

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 6.4*
Why: Readers agree that this product is "difficult" and "hard to use." One woman says, "I thought it sounded great, but it was one of those things you really need to practice. And after two months, I haven't gotten it right yet. I've been wearing eye makeup for 43 years and this is the most difficult to get right ever." A reviewer says, "this goes on too wet and smears all over your eyes" and it's "very difficult to keep it where you want it and to get it to dry properly. Another reader says, "This eyeshadow goes on smooth and dries quickly" but "haven't noticed any eye lifting -- have noticed it has [an] effect that makes skin look crepe-y. UGH!"

So sad about the Physician's Formula! Such cute packaging!

Good info. I avoid drugstore beauty products like the plague. Never seem to have any success with them.

Thanks for this!! I've bought some of these shadows before and been just as disappointed...glad I'm not the only one!

Ladies, remember to use primer under your eyeshadow (just like your foundation) it might stay on longer...

CV shadowblast was a terrible experience. It creased so bad! Maybelline shadows are very chalky. Best cheap shadows would be elf, NYX, and wet and wild!

I've had the Maybelline 8 Pan eyeshadow and the only color I ever used was the gold. Like the review said, the colors really don't look too well together and they fade pretty quickly.

CG Shadowblast, I've never really had a problem with. I have dark skin so I only use the one that has the Golden Brown on one end and a lighter brown on the other end...I forget the color. I've never used the other colors of it so I'm not sure about them. I mainly use my I as giant eye liner and I have never had a problem. Some of the rest I do agree with. I will never use any Rimmel eye product. I have used 2 of their mascaras and they both made my eyes itch all day and they flaked and got in my contacts.

I still want to try the shadowblast, but will buy it at a store that I can return it if it disapoints me.

I disagree about the Sephora review. I have had great success with their eyeshadows. I have not tried any of the other products from the article, and now I definitely will not. I usually do not purchase my cosmetics in the drugstore, so it will be easy to steer clear of the items featured herein.
