The Best and Worst Sunscreens
See which products will prevent your skin from looking lobster-like all summer long
Whether we like it or not, sunscreen is a must for all of us. And according to Heidi Waldorf, M.D. of Waldorf Dermatology & Laser Associates in Nanuet, NY, we need "an SPF of at least a 15 daily." For prolonged sun exposure, "I recommend a higher SPF (30 or above) and a water resistant formulation," she says. She also suggests choosing a sunscreen containing titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone, or mexoryl as its active ingredient.
The amount of sunscreen you apply is also vital. Waldorf recommends "a shot glass full of sunscreen" for the average adult and reapplying "every one to two hours while outdoors." We'll admit that doesn't sound like a fun way to spend your summer, but with these reader-approved products, maybe it won't seem like such a chore.

Not a fan of aerosal sunscreens, just don't feel like I get enough coverage.

I don't like using sun screen directly, it's so greasy, but I buy products with spf in them.

No matter what I get, I have to make sure it's the "kindest" type I can since my kids have sensative skin.

I prefer natural and organic sunscreen products since you apply sunscreen everyday. You should be more conscious of ingredients.

I loooove the Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus SPF 30! I have it in the kids variety too--which goes from blue to "clear" when you've rubbed it in. Smells good, repels bugs, and protects your skin. I also love the continuous spray lotions---super easy to use. And Shiseido's is pretty good too.
