No. 14: Albuquerque, N.M.

While Albuquerque is one of the fittest cities in the country according to Men's Health magazine, and that can contribute to overall teeth health (since exercise boosts circulation to your gums), the state ranks no. 49 in dentists per capita (according to statehealthfacts.org) and no. 41 in dental visits*, which means many residents aren't taking regular care of their teeth. Dr. Smigel says regular dentist visits are important to remove tartar, which can only be done professionally. Albuquerque also has hard water, which can stain teeth, and a dry climate, which can contribute to gum disease by limiting saliva.

Interesting information--definitely there is a link to how much cola you drink and what you eat to how well your teeth will fare.

I'm surprised Albany, NY, isn't on here. When I lived there for a short time, I met the most people (young adults included) with missing teeth. Apparently they don't put fluoride in the water there.

I think this report, especially from my city, is ridiculouly inaccurate.. Nevada bad teeth? We live near Los Angeles.. where teeth are so white you actually see the teeth walking in before the people.. I have so many friends and co-workers, clients I work with that have excellent teeth because they do care about their teeth as far as I know.. I surely do and I find these ridiculous stories to be unfounded except for very poverty ridden areas. There is no way I would miss a cleaning, anything because teeth and gum health is extremely important. I work out all the time, take vitamins, I still drink Starbucks and my own coffee and I drink tea as well and I like red wine here and there.. My teeth are white, they're well taken care of and to state that people don't take care of their teeth?? well that must go by individuals... because some PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THEIR HEALTH AND APPEARANCE..

Teeth whitening isn't going to improve your oral health, in fact whitening your teeth with rampant decay and advanced periodontal disease will do more harm than good. Stick to lipstick and mascara, and leave the dentistry to the experts please. Irresponsible journalism, if I do say so myself.

Know what? I never got to find out what the 14 cities were because your site is so crammed with pop-ups and adverts that the individual pages that had the individual cities on them took more time to load than I have. Um where did you get your facts? I find it extremely suspicious that ALL 14 states (well except NM) are the southern states, and it feels to me as though you are just trying to make it go with the stereotype. Although I do not live there anymore, I do not appreciate the statement, "Arkansas as a whole is not concerned wit their teeth" (not quite verbatim). Because that is just not true, and was an unnecessary rude comment.

Somtimes its not bad dental practice,But lack of good heath care programs.Most of the areas are have some of the poorest communities.

Amen to needing major dental work. I think we need to make dental insurance affordable for everyone! Dentists seems to think that we have boocoo bucks to fix a tooth. No wonder people are crossing the border to get their teeth fixed. I would hate to have to resort to this!

I found this was a very interesting article indeed. There is only one thing that needs to be considered in this survey, LACK OF HEALTH INSURANCE. I don't live in one of the mentioned cities, but needless to say I have major dental problems that I would love to have fixed, but lack of finances
