Need to soothe itchy, extremely dry skin? Readers say these products work miracles for problem skin

Anyone suffering with eczema knows how tricky it can be to find a product that will provide more than just temporary relief. When your dry, itchy skin keeps you up and scratching all night, it's time to take some action. For some eczema sufferers, this means turning to prescription creams or even steroids to try and control the pain. Yup, steroids.

Since steroids aren't the healthiest solution, and one that many of our readers have said they'd like to avoid, we did some digging to find some less dangerous-in-the-long-term alternatives for treating eczema. To do this, we went straight to the source -- our eczema-stricken readers. They have tried and tested hundreds of eczema-treatment products, along with other products made for sensitive, chronically dry or easily irritated skin, on the market -- from ones that only gave them a measly couple minutes of relief to ones that actually made a difference in the way their skin looks and feels. Here, we highlight those winning solutions.

If you're lucky enough to not have eczema, but are still looking for a solution to your dry winter skin, these products also got rave reviews and high ratings from readers who don't have eczema -- they're that good. So give them a whirl -- hopefully they'll soothe your dry skin and, for those of you with eczema, keep you out of the doctor's office.

The Vaseline sounds promising. I use one Eucerin at work and don't notice a huge difference over regular lotion, except that it smells worse.

I've had eczema since I was a kid and I've tried a lot of different moisturizers. Before I was using the Eucerin Calming Creme for years and I hated it. It did keep my skin moisturized and it calmed my spots ( my face, neck, chest and upper back) whenever they became inflamed but, it was way too greasy and thick for me. Then I tried using the Aquaphor but it was like putting Vaseline on my face. So my new dermatologist told me to try Cetaphil DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion and I absolutely looove it . It's not too thick or greasy and I would recommend it for anyone with this condition.

I have very bad excema on my arms, so bad that I rarely wear a t-shirt that could show it. My problem isn't nessiciarly the dryness(which is still bad), but the little red bumps..they're all over my arms! Hopefully some of this will help :)

MY SKIN DR SEEMS TO KNOW NOTHING EXCEPT PRESCRIBE STERIOD CREAM AND I HATE THE STUFF AND IT DOES NO GOOD. I BELIEVE ITS MOSTLY ALLERGIES FOR I HAVE ALWAYS HAD GOOD SKIN UNTIL RECENTLY AND IT MAY BE CERTAIN MEDICINES I AM TAKING BUT WILL TRY SOMETHING BESIDES STEROIDS.

I have been waiting to find Aveeno baby for eczema, but saw it once and then it disappeared. I did not know about the adult one here, so I am going to go in search for it. I saw a few products that I know of, but a few new ones. Glad to have caught this, and now something to use during the winter when I have the outbreak. The sun and heat seem to help it disappear.

I think anyone with eczema should first take an allergy skin patch test. I had been using all the wrong products before that. After the test I found out that I am allergic to lanolin and propylene glycol, among other things. Aquaphor and Clinique products have lanolin and propylene glycol respectively. That's why it's really good to go to you doctor and find out what's aggravating your eczema the most before taking advice from internet articles :-/.

That is great to include what has worked for your readers. There is so much information "out there" and stories of what has worked or what burns etc. We tried so many products for our son's Eczema including the dreaded oral steroids until we learned how bad they are. We were so blessed when my step-dad told us about Belly Boost probiotics for kids. I cannot even begin to describe the feeling we felt when shortly after starting on them....he began to clear up! It was incredible and now I recommend them to anyone that has food sensitivities or Eczema!
