Michael Duenas, Hair Stylist:
Hi, I am Michael Duenas and I am a New York and Los Angeles based hairdresser. Today, I am here to show you guys how to do a tousled, beachy look inspired by Jennifer Aniston hair. For that we are going to be using the Herbal Essence “Tousle Me Softly” collection. So you are going to start off by having your hair nice and damp. You want to make sure it’s nice and clean and you get all that product out so you have nice clean foundation to start on. First thing we are going to use is a mouse just to give it a little bit of root lift.
So now that we have the mouse evenly distrusted from her roots to her mid-shafts, we are going to go through with a styling cream. For that we are just going to be taking a little bit of the cream. You want to scoop up just a small amount and you want to make sure you emulsify it really good in your hands. If you don’t emulsify, you end up with big chunk going throughout the hair. So just going to show you, I’ve got it nice and spread out. I am going to work that through from the mid-shaft to the ends. You want to make sure you kind of comb it through.
So now that we have the product diffused through her hair we are going to go ahead and use our blow dryer on it. You really want to make sure you have the concentrator on your blow dryer, that way you can really focus the directional airflow toward the scalp and the roots. That’s where we want to start getting some lift. Its really easy to do at home, so I am going to go ahead and let Alexis show you how you can do it.
So now that we have the product nicely diffused through her hair and everything is nicely run through we are going to go ahead and blow-dry. You want to make sure you section the hair off so that you end up with a nice clean blow-dry. Even though we are going for a diffused beachy look, you want to make sure your sections you can blow-dry and can get them thoroughly dry and smooth them out. We are going to be using a boar bristle round brush. You are not going to be stretching it through the hair. You are just going to take it once and really work on smoothing it out. You are going to smooth it once without the dryer on it and you are just going to basically roll it up. You are going to unroll it and then you take the dryer and just run it right through this area until you get it nice and smooth without stretching through the hair constantly. Then roll it back up. After you have it nice and dry and it is nice and heated up you are going to slowly drop out the brush with a twist and you’re done.
So now Alexis is going to show you how easy it is to do at home. Just how I showed you before, you are going to take the brush and smooth it out all the way towards the ends. Once you have the ends in the brush you are going to roll it all the way back up to your scalp. Then you are going to take the dryer and start drying it. Once it's cool you can drop it completely out. So now you have the blow dyer part of it.
So this way the hair falls nice and natural and it kicks off back away from the face and now we are going to show you the finishing touches with a curling iron. What you want to do is, you are not going to spray the entire head first, because then the hairstyle will dry before you get to it. We are going to be spraying small sections; we are just going to be grabbing random sections of hair. You’re just going to give a light mist of hairspray. Open up the blade and go ahead and wrap the hair around. You want to get it so that it’s nice and warm. You don’t want to get it to where it's hot but just nice and warm and then you are going to drop it down. You want to make sure you grab enough curls from everywhere. Big pieces, small pieces so that this will add to the depth and dimension of the look you are trying to create. Take your iron and wrap you hair around just until it's warm. You do not want to over cook the hair and always make sure you blade is open.
So we are just grabbing another random piece, remember you don’t want to have too much continuity to it because you want it to be nice and tousled. You are going to lightly mist it down with the hairspray just enough so you can feel a little bit on there. You’re going to take the iron, open the blade and wrap it all the way around the barrel. You don’t have to focus on getting too close to your scalp because you want it to be straighter toward your root area. You are just going to hold it until it gets nice and warm and once you have it nice and warm you are going to drop it out. You will see that nice little curl coming through. So once you get the hair nice and heated up enough and you can get that nice little curl in there, you’re just going to drop it out. This is the last curl we are doing.
So now I’m just going to show you how we are going to go through and get a little bit more tousled. We are just going to reach in at the scalp and just sort of shake it out. If you get a little bit of frizz that’s okay. It's just going to add to that tousled look.
So we are just reaching in and just lightly shaking. There, you have it. Your nice soft, tousled Jennifer Aniston hair.

Looks like it would be easy to do, but an awful lot of work. And it probably wouldn't work for my thick, curly hair.

I wish my hair was as healthy as hers! I have highlights and a perm...these products don't work for me anymore! The only thing that stops me from just shaving my hair is the Frederic Fekkai Au Naturel conditioner.
