Sergio Lopez-Rivera, Makeup Artist:

Hi, I'm Sergio and today I'm going to show you a very simply way of accomplishing one of the most beautiful and clean makeup looks on the red carpet. In this particular case we're inspired by the beautiful Reese Witherspoon. Let's get started.

I like starting with a light toner, followed by a very light moisturizer all over the face. The most important step for any makeup regardless of how clean, or how complicated or glamorous it's going to be is to start with a clean face, a moisturized face and getting the skin ready to receive the makeup. The toner actually helps the absorption of the moisturizer.

I'm going to apply a little bit of moisturizing lip balm on the lips and I'm just going to let it sit there until the end of the makeup.

And now I'm just going to use a very light eye gel around the eyes and it's going to help fill in the very fine lines, if you have any, and it also helps brighten up the eye makeup. I'm going to start by applying a very light layer of foundation -- not everybody needs foundation. In this case, I'm just going to use a very, very sheer foundation just to even out the skin. The secret of this look is the softness. That's the entire goal. It has to be soft not heavy. Very healthy looking, very pretty, very classy and very elegant.

So we're coming to an end, we're just finishing up the first step of foundation. If you're wearing an open dress and if you're going for a slightly tanner look and you're using a slightly darker foundation than your skin, then don't be afraid to bring it down and blend it into your neck. The under-eye area is especially delicate because unless you have really bad discoloration, you really don't need a heavy concealer. I've just chosen a very light concealer highlight. I bring it up into the sides of the nose just to get rid of that darkness that happens right here in the corner of the eye. And I'm just blending with the brush. You can also use your fingers.

I'm going to use a little bit of pink cream blush. I like to use my fingers and just tap it onto the apples of the cheeks. It gives a very clean, youthful, beautiful look. For the powder, I like to use a very light, no-color powder. I'm just going to lightly brush.

Alright we're going to start this eye makeup. In particular, it's very soft and very creamy, but it is a smoky eye technique nonetheless. We're just using a lighter gold and bronzy palette. Right now I'm just putting a light gold color all over the lid and brow bone. This is going to create a very nice and clean surface for the rest of the eyeshadow. Also, using the same bronze color under the bottom lashes to finish off that smoky look, but again smoky can be done in any color. And right now this particular look is very soft. I'm using a soft tipped brush it's not too short, not too long. It's very pliable and very soft for this delicate area. You don't want a hard brush.

I've chosen a copper pencil and I'm going to apply directly to the root of the lash. I'm painting literally on the little fold of the skin of the eyelid where the lashes grow from. I don't have to be really precise, because I'm going to use another brush to go over this and smoke it up. I just have to deposit the color. And I'm going to break the line that I just drew. So I'm smudging the liner with this little brush and basically create a smoky effect.

Using an eyeshadow to smudge a liner is the best way to set it, to make it look smoky and to make it last all day long. OK, now I'm going to use the same little brush for the bottom lashes and just get a little bit more specific, a little bit more intense on the bottom lash. This is a very little brush to get in and around the little lashes. It's very soft and very short, and it can get literally in between the lashes very easily. I'm going to use this pencil to go inside the eye and just define the bottom lashes on the corner.

We're going to move on to the mascara. This is the regular mascara wand. I like using this wand to do the top lashes. But to do the bottom lashes, I like using a fan brush like this one. What I do is I pick up a little bit of color. This is just simply a very clean, easy way of doing it. And I always start with the bottom lashes on both eyes. When you do the bottom lashes, there's no need for you to look up and mess up your own makeup. Now for the top lashes, I like using the wand. And I like using this rotating motion because it feels like I'm using more of the product all around the wand. Just a quick brush of the eyebrow to remove any excess powder or product. This look, because it's youthful and soft, there is no need to sculpt the eyebrows in any way.

So now we're ready to move onto the lips. I'm just going to remove the excess lip balm from earlier and these lips, once again just to go with this look, is an incredibly soft and natural clean look. I'm not using lip liner, just to keep it more youthful and a little bit cleaner. The last step for me is I always like to remove the excess just to make it even softer. And this is the final look.

I love the look Reese is so beautiful and natural. This might sound bad, but I was waiting for a little more coverage to even out the models skin tone. I have freckles and I know that they are natural, but I think the artist could have used a foundation with more coverage to smooth the skin tone and still have kept the eyes.

It's a very pretty look, but I would like some suggestions on what kind of make up to use. Like for the blush he says pink cream blush but what kind of pink, is he using a certain brand or could we get suggestions of different brands that have a similar pink. Just pink cream blush could mean a thousand different kinds of pink.
