Benefit They're Real! Mascara Reviews

Yes, and They're Finally Mine!
I'm finding myself reaching for "Benefit's They're Real!" more and more often. The formula is excellent at separating each and every lash, coloring, lifting, and adding a good deal of volume. I can use it on bottom lashes without fear of crumbling or dreaded "raccoon eyes." The formula lasts through long days and nights (and, yes, sometimes overnight when I fall asleep without removing makeup--a shame, I realize). I bought the trial size of this at Sephora and went on to purchase the full size. Beware; as with any mascara, discard after a few months or if you detect a strange scent. I am OCD about germs, especially around my eyes. — 3 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 7 people said helpful

No, They're Not Real Mascara
There is nothing special about this mascara. There is no lengthening and thickening. Maybelline is better. This is vastly over priced and over rated because it is Benefit. Try Urban Decay "Big Fatty." Terrible name, but it's a lengthening and thickening mascara for $20. — 10 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 11 people said helpful

Fantastic
I got a deluxe sample of this and it's surprisingly a great mascara. The brush resembles Diorshow Iconic with long thin bristles (Iconic has more bristles though). This is meant for lengthening, separating, and supposedly adds a slight curl. It's not waterproof (I normally use the Iconic in Waterproof which is a PAIN to remove), but this is one of the best NON-waterproof formulas I have used. There is NO flaking and it really does last ALL day, but it's much easier to remove unlike waterproof formulas. I love it. — 1 year, 10 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 10 people said helpful

Nice but..
I like this mascara just fine, it really does give my lashes a lot of length but not a lot of volume. If I don't use a curler then this mascara really doesn't seem to do anything, not to mention this stuff is IMPOSSIBLE to get off! I like that I can count on it not to come off during the day or late into the night... but this is very hard to remove. I've tried washing my eyes with baby shampoo, using Vaseline, eye make up remover... the works and I still find my self rubbing my eyes in the morning and losing lashes because they stuck to my hand... and even my curler after a shower. Also I don't care for the wand, it's very hard and rough and this formula would probably work better on a fiber brush. — 1 month, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Blew Me Away
I got a sample of this with this year's Sephora birthday gift. Having heard so much (good and bad) about this mascara, I was really excited to try it for myself. I have been so impressed with this! The wand is a little crazy. It has the stiff, plastic bristles that I don't usually care for and a ball of spikes on the end. Still, I find it fairly easy to work with and the results are fantastic. I get excellent length and definition with this and a bit of volume too. This hasn't flaked off on me, smudged or irritated my eyes at all (and I have sensitive eyes). With most mascaras, by the end of the day, my lashes feel hard and my eyes start to itch a bit, but I couldn't even feel this mascara on my eyes, even by the end of the day. One negative thing I heard about this was this it was impossible to remove. I hate mascaras that are such a booger to remove! When it came time for me to take this off, I was pleasantly surprised that this was at least as easy to remove as most of my other mascaras. I didn't have to tug at my eyes or use several cotton pads soaked with remover to get this off. It came off surprisingly easy considering how well it stays on throughout the day. I probably like this even more than my former favorite from Benefit, "BadGal". I will definitely consider this mascara when I am next in the market. — 1 month, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 3 people said helpful

Not impressed
I was SO excited to try this mascara. A friend had purchased and sent me a picture of herself--one eye no mascara and the other with one coat of They're Real! and the difference was truly amazing. To get anywhere near the amazing lashes I've seen people achieve with this mascara, I need one coat of primer and two of the mascara. And even then I find the look disappointing. What is even worse, in my opinion, is the brush. I think they had the right idea with design, but the bristles are very sharp and putting on the mascara was actually a bit painful for me. I will say that it didn't flake or smudge the entire time I was wearing it. That's the best I have to say. I was not impressed. Luckily I only bought the small tube and I bought it at Sephora (and saved my receipt) so I'll be returning it. — 1 year, 1 month agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 6 of 9 people said helpful

Benefit They're Real Mascara
I purchased a full size tube of this without having tried a sample size, which is something I rarely, if ever, do. This mascara did NOT disappoint. Normally I would have to use at least 3 different mascaras to get the desired effect that this one does with two coats. It's a little bit of a pain to get off, but that just goes to show you how well it wears. My lashes look AMAZING thanks to this product. I will definitely continue to use it, but will also continue to try other brands as they come out with new products, just because I'm a product junkie at heart. — 1 year, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 9 people said helpful

One of my top favs
Love the volume and length this gives. It looks great. It doesn't leave my lashes as soft as I like but they aren't stiff and flakey either. The rubber brush took a bit to get used to. Also the formula dried down to perfect in about a week. The tube lasted me a long time too. — 11 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 7 of 7 people said helpful

Great when it's new
This mascara definitely delivers. The instructions that come with it are also very helpful. They tell you to use a zigzag effect on your upper lashes, which would be helpful with any mascara. If you curl your lashes, use some primer, and apply two coats, it's great. When it gets a little old (and I mean a few weeks), this product does not perform as well. The formula gets too thick and clumpy, and does not enhance, as it does when it's new. There are several mascaras I prefer, but this is great like I stated ... when it's new. — 7 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Dissapointed
Was wanting to try this since it came out and was happy when I saw the sample size at Ulta. I purchased it and was so disappointed at how it looked. Was drying and smudged easily. Added a small amount of length but nothing impressive. Glad I didn't pay full price for this. — 1 year agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 3 people said helpful
