Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Washable Mascara Reviews

Is Maybelline Kidding With This?
As I wrote in a previous review, I pretty much grew up using Maybelline’s “Ultra Lash” in a simple white tube (occasionally “borrowing” my mother’s Estee Lauder tube, something never to do with mascara because of the possibility of germ contamination and eye diseases). I’m sorry it’s gone now, as it worked well. I could build as much coverage as I wanted and still appear natural. When I grew older, I tried their “Great Lash” (not truly a great product, but still good). And then my experimentation grew to include nearly every drugstore and department store brand possible. Like many women, I was looking for “THE” mascara which would make my lashes much like Scarlett O’Hara’s elongated, curly, full black ones, the ones she would simply bat and have men falling at her feet. When Maybelline New York's "Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Washable Mascara" appeared on the shelves (approximately $8.50), I was reviewing items for another popular online beauty site. The marketing campaign was orchestrated brilliantly. Commercials kept flashing seductive, mile-high shoes and flashy black patent. A sultry voiced announced the benefits; I was convinced—this was IT! It was my understanding from ads that “Stiletto” would take my lashes to the sky, give them a glossy finish, and separate them perfectly. Talk about deception in advertising! “Stiletto” was one of my greatest disappointments. It did nothing—absolutely nothing—in terms of adding any length (or volume). There was no gloss. It had been misnamed; it should have been termed Maybelline’s “Slip-On Shoes” Mascara. Or perhaps “Maybelline’s Flip-Flops” (emphasis on “FLOP” here). What in the world did it have in common with stiletto heels? It tinted my lashes, but the brush wasn’t particularly useful and I had some problems with clumping. I have to mention this. There was a distinct ugly odor, very hard to describe, which emanated from the product as I used it and remained when I finished. Perhaps I had bought a tube from a bad lot; I got a refund and purchased it elsewhere. The stench remained with my new tube. And there were still no spikes for me. The next move? At least it was washable. I removed it and threw the tube in the trash can, where it belonged. — 2 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 4 people said helpful

Dreadful.
I liked how shiny and dark the formula was, and the brush was fine, but this BURNED my eyes like crazy. I will NEVER use this again. — 2 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 9 people said helpful

Okay, but there are far better mascaras
I like that this makes my lashes ultra black, but it flakes off pretty easily. I wouldn't say that this defines and lengthens the appearance of my lashes. It's just a general mascara like anything else. — 2 years, 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 9 people said helpful

adds tons of length
this mascara is incredible. it lengthened my lashes twice as normal length and over time, it really did make my lashes grow long just as the package claims. i noticed my lashes were still long even after i took off the mascara. as far as holding a curl, this does not hold a curl for very long at all. i noticed my lashes were back to normal in less than an hour. overall,i highly recommend. especially if you want length. it is easy to wash off as well. — 3 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 9 people said helpful

Ick
This left me feeling like I had daggers for eye lashes. The finish was strange and my lashes felt brittle and "crispy." Just ick! — 1 year, 1 month agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 6 people said helpful

Not too bad
I used to have this mascara a few years ago, and I liked it. I mean it was not the best I've ever tried, but it worked for me. I loved the way it gave me long lashes and did not really clump. It's a pretty good one. — 1 year, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 2 people said helpful

For party eyes!
This mascara grabs my lashes and pulls and defines each one. It's great for going out to parties but too much for working in an office. These lashes say PARTY TIME! — 3 years, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 4 people said helpful

Long Lashes
I like this mascara because it seemed to lengthen each of my lashes and has a great color. I liked that it didn't clump or curl the lashes. It has a strong smell, but it really works. — 2 years, 9 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

not a winner
the 3 stars is for the color, ONLY. it is very dark. on the adds i saw 'shiny' and 'patent' finishes promised. i got neither that i could see....nor did i see any especially lengthening attributes. plus it smelt a bit nasty, as the ohter girls noticed and i cant find any reason that might happen. :( all in all, i used it once, saw no results at all, found that single application led to flaking and threw it straight in the trash. i bought a second tube when i purchased the first time [i always buy multis of new stuff in case its OMG HG] and gave one to my lil sis. she hates it too. — 4 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 9 of 9 people said helpful

marketing got me!
I was enticed by the clever marketing, only to find out that this mascara didn't thicken, lengthen, nor curl my lashes. This is a very wet formula that can "undo" my lash curling, and it has a horrible rose scent that is overpowering. It wasn't glossy "patent" finish either. I'll use it on my off days. — 4 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 7 of 8 people said helpful
