The price is a little steep for a drugstore balm, even if it is L'Oreal, but you'll likely get several months of daily use out of each palm-sized pot. The texture is indeed jelly-like, with a light, sweet smell and taste. Lips feel smooth and soft with not too much slick or stick. Potential buggy features? Though the HiP line is known for rich pigments, what appears to be bright color in the package turns very sheer, almost colorless, on lips. Also, the pot is a bit bulky (glass, perhaps?) and requires you to use your finger or a brush (not included) to apply.

More like a lipstain than a balm
by cheetah11 (152 reviews)Top 100 ReviewerTrusted ReviewIn my experience, the darker colors are a bit more long lasting than lighter shades. I was surprised this is marketed as a balm as it leaves a stain of sheer color on my lips, much like a lipstain would. Also, for a balm, staying power is pretty good. I'd give it about 4 hrs on me tops, without eating or drinking. The s...cent was light and not obnoxious and my lips felt supple while wearing it. The big plus is it's not sticky, tacky or icky. The only gripe I have is the color is not as intense on my lips as it is in the container. Still, I find the sheerness of it useful for daytime look. If only it came in a tube form, it would be more convenient to use as I'm not too fond of lip products that come in a pot. October 5, 2009, 4:19 am2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Not so "hip"?
by Starluxe (300 reviews)Top 100 ReviewerTrusted ReviewHIP's Jelly Balm was released after MAC had their Tender Tones collection of Lip Balms. Coincidence? I think not. This is quite pigmented, especially for a lip balm and the shades are ultimately flattering but after maybe thirty minutes or an hour, I find it gone. I didn't eat, I didn't smack my lips, nothing's touched ...them. I wish it wore longer and for a price a bit steeper than your average mass retail lipgloss range, I'd expect better. It's a simple tinted lip balm with an exagerrated price overall. But - if you wear a lipstick similar to the shade of the balm or something that coordinates with it, it ends up giving a subtle sheen of gloss rather than wet lips look. This does flatter lipsticks and keep lips moist for the time being if your lipstick tends to dry and chap your lips. November 20, 2008, 11:29 pm2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

"The Perfect Balm"
by KPLeannepz1 (151 reviews)Top 100 ReviewerTrusted ReviewThis lip balm is my #1 favorite! It's lightweight, non sticky, and makes your lips super smooth and shiny. It's also very long lasting. It's truly the best lip balm I've ever tried! I don't have anything negative to say about it. If you want an exellent quality balm, than try this, because you won't be dissapointed! Highly ...recommended... October 4, 2009, 3:20 am1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

ooh :) <3
by scarletlove (31 reviews)not sticky, long lasting (considering it's a lip balm)! it'll come right off if you kiss/eat/drink of course, but it doesn't fade away. colors aren't true to the jelly in the jar, but it works for me -I got "delectable" the bright red... and it looks sexy. ;) only downside: expensive..get it on sale like I did!! :...) Better than MAC's tendertones
by mitanari (27 reviews)I like this even more than MAC's tender tones! It is almost perfect, great colors, very moisturizing, doesn't smell or taste bad, very pigmented, smooth and not sticky. I take off 1 star for not having any spf and coming in a pot. I bought every color. March 31, 2009, 10:03 pm1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I just ate a popsicle look!
by lbalaji1 (32 reviews)This lip gloss is AMAZING! I read the reviews before I bought it, but I had some skepticism because a few people said they were let down. Let me just say how AWESOME this gloss is. It is shiny, non-sticky, moisturizing, and long lasting. And it smells like caramel without having any obnoxious taste. It gave me the exact lo...ok I was going for - the "I just ate a popsicle" look. But, if you want your lips to stop traffic, this isn't the gloss for you. It's VERY sheer, and also, it doesn't come with any applicator - so you need to have a brush or use Qtips or your finger (kinda gross). Other than that, I LOVE it - and it's worth getting it on a B1G1 sale :) March 28, 2009, 7:17 am1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I want it in every color!
by glossypink (29 reviews)Total Beauty BloggerEvery girl has a stash of one (or six) lipglosses in her purse at all times. L’Oreal HiP Jelly Balm in Ripe has earned permanent residency in my bag. Drenching lips in smooth, sexy shine, this product makes lips look juicy, and well, ripe. The consistency of the balm is like nothing I've ever felt before. Not waxy, heavy... or sticky, it almost feels bouncy if that makes any sense. A tint of color and a lush, moisturized feel is all this balm leaves behind. Plus, it smells like vanilla frosting, which, do I even have to say it, totally works for me. March 9, 2009, 9:05 pm1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Like it a lot!
by MayGlobus (4 reviews)I really do like this new-ish lip jelly balm from L'Oreal Paris because not only does it look good getting pulled out of my bag, it also has a good consistency and sweet taste. It give Smith's Rosebud Salve a dose of stiff competition. February 16, 2009, 5:24 pm1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

WONDERFUL
by MakeupGuru (370 reviews)Top 10 ReviewerTrusted ReviewThis balm does feel like jelly, with thick translucent cushiony softness, giving you a very nice coating that protects lips like vaseline. It comes in a large jar that you can kiss your lips into and since it's soft, it sticks to your lips, no fingers needed! It's not high intensity, rather on the sheer side. It has no scen...t, it's not sticky, slightly heavy feel but smooth and comfortable. November 13, 2009, 4:47 pm0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

ehh just go to mac
by sarahmarierose (15 reviews)the idea of a drugstore lip stain sounds great but the product isn't as good as the other items in the HIP line. color is nice but doesn't last and it doesnt provide much moisture. go for mac tender tones is you want something like this. its worth the extra money.
