This absolutely does smell terrible, but it's also absolutely worth it. It works. It works really, really well. When I was using this mask regularly (about twice a week), I noticed a significant decrease in the shine and excess oil on my face every day. The only reason I don't use it anymore is because I lost mine and lately I don't even have time for a mask once a week so there isn't much point. Someday I'd like to buy a new one, though.
