Salon-quality results at home (on dark hair!)

    by ilovethe80s (31 reviews)
    Trusted Review
I have very long hair with light caramel/ dark blonde highights through the crown that had not been touched up for about 3 years. I went to a salon for a touchup and left with thin strips of brassy copper highlights which I hated, but the salon said I could not go any lighter without damaging my hair (my hair is thermally ...reconditioned and dark brown). So, I decided to try and do my highlights on my own. I have had horrendous results with at home highlights in the past. Brassy, orange, brittle hair. But after reading positive reviews, I gave Frost and Glow a shot. When I mixed the bleach, I was relieved to see that it was a violet blue color to counteract brassiness. I was prepared to use a toner afterward though, because after all, it is just drugstore bleach. Due to the length of my hair, I skipped the cap and attempted to foil myself. I have foiled other people\'s hair before, but it was really difficult to do on myself. I ended up just randomly selecting pieces, putting the bleach on them and wrapping them up in foil so they did not touch the non-bleached hair. I kept the bleach on until my hair went past the orange stage, until it looked pale yellow under the bleach. After I rinsed, I had beautiful, sunny highlights that exactly match the light caramel/ dark blonde color I had gotten at the (good) salon years ago! NO TONER NEEDED (and my hair is darkest brown). I cannot believe that I got salon-quality highlights (for which I have paid $150 for a half head at salon) from a 9.99 drugstore highlighting kit! Also worth mentioning, it as been a couple of weeks and my hair shows no sign of damage. It is as soft as silk. I don\'t think I will ever get my highlights in a salon again. This stuff is amazing. Perfect for the price.

    by Heatherannn (3 reviews)
I have used frost and glow for years, and I love it. Highlighting can be expensive, time consuming, and a color gamble at your local salon. Frost and Glow is so inexpensive, you do it at home, and its up to you how heavy or light you go. The color is really nice and your hair feels amazing after your highlighted and conditi...oned. I love this product. December 10, 2007, 10:12 am

    Good buy

Pretty easy to use but take your time and read instructions if you are new to hair coloring. Looks natural and helps cover roots and blend highlights. I use is in between salon appts to save money and brighten my hair. October 25, 2007, 10:12 am

Bravo! Best Product of its Kind

    by HoneyB12 (4 reviews)
I LoVe this product. It is not only easy, but also fun. The no-fail cap allows you to adjust your highlight level from subtle (around the face) to dramatic (all over highlights-to get effect shown on box). It comes with an easy to use tool that lets you pull small strands through the cap holes. The instructions are clear an...d concise. The effect is beautiful, striking without being obnoxious. I used to spend an obscene amount of money getting high-and low-lights, which I was sometimes unhappy with (either not noticeable or brassy). The following advice is for a more dramatic effect. Here's what you need to know-use a compact mirror so you can see the back of your head in your bathroom mirror. Your arm's going to get tired if you're doing it right. It is going to take a while (it's worth it though-and, at the salon, it can take all day). Plan for a break or two. You will have A loT of little sprouts of hair that will be treated with the mixture and wrapped in a plastic wrap. Have a non metallic hair clip ready to cinch in the front. It's gonna get warm (instructions will alert you of this)-it's fine, don't worry. Follow the instructions and you'll be over the moon at how great your hair looks. It also comes with a deep conditioner to minimize damage. I can't say enough good things about this. Be patient, take your time. This is even better than the salon. I fancied myself a colorist when I saw the heavenly results. September 17, 2008, 10:07 pm

    Frost and GO!!

    by JsBabyGrl (8 reviews)
In spite of what some people might think, this store bought Revlon bleach kit is great for those who don't have the time or the money for a salon trip. Not only is this inexpensive but if you pay attention to the instructions, you can have beautiful, salon-look highlighted hair. The results are fabulous, the price is right... and it is made for many shades of hair. July 10, 2008, 6:12 pm

    as good as salon

    by laneski (8 reviews)
I paid a fortune to get my brown hair highlighted last year. Unable to keep with the high price of the salon, I opted to go back and stay brown. With the gray hair starting to grow in, I wanted to get my hair highlighted again and read the reviews of Revlon Frost & Glow and gave it a try. I did a test strand and was imp...ressed and did the rest of my hair myself and was pleased with the results. I have compared the pictures of me with the salon hair and Revlon hair and I actually like the Revlon hair better. Will use this product for now on. May 21, 2009, 4:24 am

    FANTASTIC FOR BRUNETTES

    by btvs2678 (3 reviews)
If you get the box for medium to dark hair, it actually works. It does not come out orange! I love it! work if you have dyed hair also. you just don't have to leave it in as long. I use it and my sister due too. We have little parties very time we have to get touch ups. It is easy to use (follow the directions) and you don'...t have to be a beautican to use it. cost is low and you can get it at walmart. October 28, 2008, 8:30 pm

    Had really amazing results!

    by jleigh5570 (12 reviews)
I have been getting my dark brown hair highlighted for years and I typicallly like a lighter blond color when I get it done. I was running short on money right before the holidays and i really needed my roots touched up. Because of Total Beauty reviews, I decided to buy this product and try it at home myself. It took me ...a while to pull the desired amount of hair through the cap (my hubby had to help with the back) but once that was done, the rest way pretty easy. I left it on actually a bit longer than it said (again, my hair is pretty dark) but the results were amazing!! It looked just like I had my hair highlighted at the salon! It was not at all orange or brassy looking...very natural and just the right shade of blond I like. I would definitely recommend this product...and at $7 a box, that is quite a savings! :) April 1, 2009, 11:49 am
