I have to admit, I was a bit stemmied by a "Vintage 1978 Shampoo" that I received from Total Beauty and Aveda. Vintage shampoo? Huh? But I've ALWAYS wanted to try some Aveda products, so I happily bounded off to the shower to have a test wash.
The bottle itself is cute and kitschy, with obvious graphics to induce memories of the 70's era. I also love that Aveda products are manufactured with 100% wind energy. How grand is that?!?! Love it.
On to the shampoo itself. The Clove shampoo is made to enhance darker blondes and medium to light brunette hair by coating the cuticle with shine and using ingredients to enhance your natural highlights. I noticed incredible shine after one use. Amazing shine! But I also had incredible frizz... boo. I think this shampoo might work well for fine-haired gals like me if we just use it once a week as a detox/clarifying shampoo rather than daily. Plus, be sure to follow it up with a good conditioner.
So my first foray into Aveda was mighty disappointing for me. I know the brand has loads of fans, but this shampoo just did not impress me. It's not horrible, but certainly not a stellar stand-out either. I adore the cola smell and shine, but will have to pass on repurchase due to the stripped and frizzy way it left my hair. Brunettes, listen up! Now you can save the world and your strands too with Aveda's limited-edition Vintage Clove Shampoo, inspired by the very first product ever made by Aveda - the Clove Pure Plant Shampoo. Since I myself am a redhead, I asked a family friend to give it a try for a couple of weeks and see what she thought. She, of course, jumped on it, crossing her fingers her tresses would come out looking tres fabulous. And they did. I didn't tell her the shampoo was meant to enhance her brown hues, making them a richer, darker shade. Here's exactly what H. said:
"The shampoo has a rich lather...and the fragrance is soft, but pleasant. It rinses easily, and my hair feels very clean after using it. I've had several people ask if I have darkened my hair since I have been using it. They think I colored my hair, but I guess the color is just more noticable. I can't really tell a difference when I look at it, though."
It's made of organically grown clove and organically grown coffee to enhance the warm, brown color. And let me just say, the scent is fantastic! Lemon, ylang ylang and black pepper combine with other pure flower and plant essences to create a truly great aroma you'll love. Vintage Clove Shampoo uses organic clove, coffee and aloe to enhance brown hair with warm honey tones. The smell is wonderful. It's a blend of organic lemon, ylang-ylang, black pepper and other Pure Flower and Plant Essences. I seriously think Aveda owns the market, when it comes to good smelling products! Used regularly, if you have brown or warm shades of hair, Vintage Clove Shampoo will enhance the shades. I like it to help extend time-between-colorings and love how soft it leaves your hair. Aveda's first shampoo is still a modern favorite. Made for brunette and honey blonde toned hair, the famous Clove shampoo, is made with organically grown clove. Clove is a detoxifying herb that enhances warm tones and organically grown coffee which enriches brown tones and provides astringent benefits to the scalp. Organic ingredients and coffee are characteristics of the latest technology so its safe to say that this shampoo came long before its time.
The shampoo smells amazing and gives the hair a fresh, clean feel while not stripped of excess moisture. Like a Chanel handbag, this vintage itme is a must have! October 28, 2008, 10:44 pm
