Maybelline New York Define-A-Lash Washable Lengthening Mascara

Average member rating of 6.0

Rated a 3.5
A mascara that promises "zero clumps" with "stunning length" and "clean definition" at this price sounds too good to be true -- and it is. The reason it doesn't clump? The formula is so thin, you'll need at least two coats to get decent lash definition. Then it starts clumping. Also, the bendable rubber applicator takes some getting used to; it feels really strange and flimsy at first.

    Big, beautiful eyes

April 24, 2008, 9:31 am Define-A-Lash is a product that caught my eye with it's bright green outlook. I tried it on at the store and had my boyfriend muy it for me a few days later. For me, it works wonders. My lashes are kinda short and fair, but by mixing a white lenghtening mascara with Define-A-Lash, I have the most beautiful lashes I've ever had. And it's proven by others as well, got a lot of compliments on my lashes the first day I went out with Define-A-Lash in my eyes. It made my lashes longer, fuller and it left no clumps either - just like it promised. I don't know about other people, but my eyes look big and beautiful now. April 24, 2008, 9:31 am

    Not clump-free, but still high-drama

A few months later and the clumps are still there, but at least smaller than before. The reason why I still like the product, however, is because it really does add extra drama to my eyes. It makes them look thicker and longer than before, and although it doesn't exactly look natural because of the clumping, I still prefer it to my barely-there mascara of old. April 20, 2008, 10:52 pm

Good for definition, not much else

April 20, 2008, 4:16 pm I'd heard about the virtues of this mascara from a trusted beauty site so i figured I'd give it a whirl. I got it at Rite-Aid when they were having a buy 1 get 1 free deal, The eyeshadow i got is much more usable. But I digress. The mascara wand is flimsy and flexible which allows me to "define" each lash. If you have have naturally thick lashes and want just an everyday mascara, go for it.That's really the only benefit of the mascara - one coat doesn't add any volume, thickness, or length to my lashes. A second coat however tends to clump and give me the dreaded spider eyelash look. Overall, i think there are better mascaras out there at similar price points. April 20, 2008, 4:16 pm

I picked up this mascara when it was first introduced, because I was anxious to test out a new formula and brush. (Thankfully, Maybelline is such a steal, that I wasn't really taking a risk.) The first week I was wearing it I had a girlfriend as me if I was wearing false eyelashes, because they looked so long! Since then I have gotten several more comments and compliments on my lashes. My mom even asked me what I was using, because she thought my eyelashes looked so long and full, and she asked me to pick up a tube for her. Another friend asked me what I used, because my mascara never looks smudged or runs even after we work out together. The "blackest black" color really makes my eyes pop! I love the length that this mascara gives me without the clumping or flaking that some mascaras will do. This is especially important since I wear contacts and have fairly sensitive eyes. For now this is my FAVORITE mascara...until Maybelline comes up with another great formula! May 28, 2008, 6:06 pm

I agree that at first the brush feels a little weird, but after 2-3 times you get used to it and learn how to apply it so your eyelashes will look stunning! I wasn't blessed with neither long nor thick eyelashes, but this mascara makes them look so much longer! I love it and don't know any other product that can compete with this one. I used to use Lancome Definicile, but this one gives me same result but for much less money. Another favourite - Covergirl, the purple one, but I think Maybelline deos better job with lenthening. This is one of the best mascaras ive everr tried! It makes your lashes sooo long and theres nooo clumps. The only bad thing is it leaves them a little thin soo theres not alot of volume. But it still makes them look reaalllyy nice. =] January 4, 2008, 8:31 pm

December 17, 2007, 1:57 am I found that this mascara was great, if you have wonderfully thick curly lashes. As I do not, this product was only so so. The liquid is so thing and easily smudged until it dries that I needed at least three coats and a good lash curler to get the definition I crave. I also noticed a few hours after applying my eyes start to burn a little bit. Maybe an allergic reaction or it could have been the constantly "snow flake" like effect of the mascara crumbling into my eye. When I do a daytime eye it's nice though, two coats, very subtle. December 10, 2007, 11:18 am I didn't use to drugstore products. Most of the time when I get something in a drugstore I get disappointed. But not this time! Recently I bought Define-A-lash mascara by Maybelline and I'm totally happy about it. I love the flexible wand with triangle-shaped bristles! It deposits the color right at the roots and coats every lash evenly. Lashes appear sleeker, fuller and longer. No clumping or flaking. On my opinion it is comparable with cult mascaras and my all time favorites: Definicils High definition mascara by Lancôme and Diorshow mascara. December 10, 2007, 11:18 am

April 28, 2008, 6:12 pm of course i bought this b/c the sparkly ultra springtime fresh bright green tube just screamed awesome, in fact i bought FOUR, so i could distribute them amoungst my sisters, who like i, are always on the look out for the best mascara ever. the tube is the best thing about this tho. the brush is definatly flimsy, it never seems to have enough product on it to give me any additional volume, and only negligable length...the color is nice and dark, and i guess it does look fairly natural, but frankly, natural just doesnt do it for me. oh, it washes off easily, and only smeared alittle, under my eyes. not worth buying twice, ps, none of my sisters liked it either. I don't like the brush. Unless you are very precise with the application, and who doesn't smudge their mascara a little some mornings, it is pretty useless. On top of that Maybelline tests on animals, and as we all know when you get mascara in your eye it hurts. Maybelline and it's parent company L'Oreal should reconsider their approach to testing and maybe put a little bit more effort into product quality. February 21, 2008, 8:53 am
