Editor Review

Rated a 9.5

L'Oreal's HiP line consistently proves that good things come in small packages. This double-sided compact is a giant bargain that fits snugly in the palm of your hand. Flip-open caps reveal two intensely pigmented, complementary shadows on one side of the compact and a mirror and two sponge applicators (no brush) on the other side. Color combos with names like Sassy and Saucy go on soft when dry and bold when wet. Left alone, pigments won't budge from lids.

i was pretty excited about hip because it's all about the high intensity pigments...hm. well i found out that wasn't really the case. the colors actually are not as intensifying and i was a bit bummed about it. i bought mine when walgreens was having a buy one get one free sale so i had gotten 4 of them. good thing i bought... them on sale. DISAPPOINTING all the way!

I remember when these first came out and I paid a ridiculous 9 dollars for each duo. I thought it would be worth it, but after several attempts to use them, I just threw them into my big makeup case and forgot about them. I tried using them again yesterday and I still hate them. The colors are NOT intense, and they absol...utely are a horror to blend. I would definitely return them if I could, and would not be buying any of L'Oreal's HiP products in the future. i really like the color selection, but for some reason the eyeshadow gives me a burning sensation after a little while. the shadow wears better than most but i can\'t get past the irritation. i\'ve given mine away to my best friend and she loves them and has no issues. i guess i will stick to MAC. When I traveled to the U.S. this summer, I planned on stocking up on this stuff because I heard it was so good and I can't get it where I live. And wow... did it ever suck! They try to rival high-end, triple milled eye shadows but L'Oreal just fails miserably. I found most colors ended up looking dirty on my skin. They're s...trong and highly pigmented but they don't blend well at all and have no staying power. And the applicators are trash! January 16, 2008, 9:03 pm

    Not great on darker skin

I was disappointed with this product. It looks very pigmented in the container but does not show well on darker complexions. On their website they boast that it does, and even has pictures of this color duo on a darker african-american model. However I am not as dark as the model and it only shows half as well on me. I ...think that it is misleading and not worth the price for darker complected users. Just use NYX instead. Same look, better price. April 29, 2008, 7:41 am

The colors are so outrageous that it’s hard to imagine circumstances where their use would be appropriate, even if you were a Clown for Cirque du Soleil, you’d at least have class enough not to want to look garish. As far as the product itself is concerned, the particles are very large and do not adhere well to the eye area... or blend well and are very hard to control…and because it’s a drugstore item, you can’t try before you buy. Skip this. December 31, 2007, 12:13 pm

After trying so many other drugstore eye shadows, I have to say the L'Oreal HiP shadow duos are at the top of my list. Though a little pricey, like the rest of the line, the colors are gorgeous, intense, and full of pigment. They can be a little tricky to blend without a good brush. I also suggest using a primer if your lid...s are normal to oily to make sure the colors stay in place. These are great, though - I own so many of them, and I hope they continue broadening their color selection. Look for them on sale; they're completely worth a try. Very comparable to more expensive brands. Totally gorgeous. April 27, 2008, 12:08 am

I'm not really into drugstore eyeshadows but my co-worker kept on raving about this, saying it's as pigmented as MAC but cheaper, so I gave it a try. Doesn't compare at all to MAC or other high end eye shadows as far as pigments and longevity is concerned. The intensity is at best average and so is staying power. It look...s a lot more pigmented in the container than it does on my eyes. Using a primer underneath (such as UDPP) does help a bit in longevity and intensity but even with that it's just so-so. Also, the colors are so ridiculous that it's unwearable for day time. It's also very hard to blend w/ a brush and I had to use my fingers to blend it in good. Oh, forget about using the brush that comes with this. It's absolutely useless. Get a good eye shadow brush instead. Sure it's a lot cheaper than more expensive eye shadows but don't expect it to perform as good as one. So my opinion...if you're used to wearing MAC or other highly pigmented shadows, you might be disappointed with this. November 4, 2008, 6:54 pm
