  • Valentine's Day Recon: Where To Find (and Not Find!) Guys This Year

  • Let's face it; if you don't have a guy in your life, February 14 is simply a colossal bummer waiting to happen. No one, I mean no one, likes seeing those ubiquitous red roses and cutesy balloon bears get delivered to everyone but her.

  • Ok, we're agreed that it sucks, but c'mon, let's turn this around! No more pity parties and cursing Hallmark under our breath. This year let's make a proactive pact that rather than dwelling on what we don't have, we'll get psyched about what we do have – namely loads o' research that points to where all the desirable (and less than desirable) men are so that maybe next year … well, let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

  • By combing through reams of census data that covers lifestyle factors like smoking and drinking, and analyzing countless surveys on health, weight, education and income, TotalBeauty.com was able to zero in the best and worst cities in America to find a mate. Now, hopefully you live in or near these hotbeds of hotties; but, if not, what better way to use some frequent flier miles?

  • Best Cities:

  • Provo, Utah -- Not exactly a Mecca for nightlife and haute couture, but when it comes to men -- and not all of them are Osmonds -- the city boasts the lowest rate of heavy drinkers and smokers in the country, see more reasons why you should consider a guy from this city.

  • Ft. Collins, Colorado, home to Colorado State University. With all those undergrads and professors roaming around it can't be hard to drum up prospective paramours. But there’s more: voted Money magazine's "Best Place to Live" in 2006, Ft. Collins boasts higher-than-average scores for men stating they are generally in overall good health, are not overweight and don’t smoke or drink. If that didn't convince you, see other reasons here.

  • Drive 57 miles south to Denver and you'll find yourself in the most sexually active metropolis in America according to a QualityHealth.com survey. This isn't surprising since the men of Mile High City make good money, are in great health, and only smoke and drink in moderation. Click here to get more sexy stats on guys from this city.

  • Worst Cities:

  • If healthy, educated men are what you seek, you best not go to Texas -- specifically, Houston, where more than 15 percent of men 25 and older didn't get past ninth grade! If that's not enough to scare you, see what else makes Houston guys unattractive.

  • You'll also want to stay away from Greensboro, North Carolina, which, according to that same QualityHealth.com survey, ranks super-low on the sexual activity scale. Bad teeth and one of the highest rates of obesity in the nation might have something to do with it. Yes, there are more reasons this city made the "worst" list, see them here.

  • Whatever floats your (self-purchased) Whitman's Sampler, there's one thing we can agree on, the right guys are out there, we just need to know where to look. Check out the full list of the Top 10 Hottest-Guy Cities here.

  • Oh yeah, and don't forget to consult the complete list of the Eight Cities With the Ugliest Guys before you pack your bags.

  • And, since we're really jockeying to be in position by February 14, 2011, peruse this list of guys' biggest beauty turn-ons 'cause, hey, a little knowledge can go a long way.
