7-Free Nail Polish When five-free just isn't enough, that's where the seven-free polishes step up to the plate. Ethyl tosylamide, an ingredient banned in Europe, and xylene, a chemical that can cause all kinds of organ toxicity when used in large quantities, are given the heave-ho in seven-free polishes. But here's where it gets tricky: Most conventional polishes don't contain xylene anymore, whether they tout it or not.
