What the Cool Kids Are Wearing: Hair Color Edition
From sombré to pastel, the new hues to try in 2014
Who Can Pull It Off: It may be hard to believe, but Petroff says it doesn't matter what skin tone, eye color or natural hair color you have. Anyone can pull off platinum blonde hair color as long as your colorist is meticulous about getting any yellow tones out.
What to Ask For: So you've steeled up the nerve (maybe had a few glasses of wine) to get that drastic dye job. Unfortunately, platinum blonde is not a look you should attempt in one sitting. "Try to get there in several visits rather than compromising the hair so much at once," says Denis De Souza, Joico Celebrity Colorist. "You want your hair to look good, but feel good too."
Beware Of: If you're a low-maintenance type of gal, platinum blonde hair color is not the color for you. Platinum color requires more care, less heat styling and lots and lots of moisture. Experts recommend using purple shampoos at home at least once a week to keep brassiness from ruining your color and tone. (Our readers love Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo.)
