Katharine McPhee's gorgeously retro-inspired hairstyle works best on hair that falls below the ears. To get it:

1. Part your hair above the ear on one side of your head. Bring the rest of your hair over to the other side.
2. Use a 1-inch curling iron like Conair Instant Heat 1" Curling Iron, $11.99 to curl the tips of your hair outward. Use your fingers to shape them as they cool.
3. Mist all over with strong-hold hairspray, and push down on the top of your hair to flatten it a bit.

Just a tip for the Rihanna 'Edgy Pixie' style, instead of shaving your head, you could always part, gel and pin your head so it looks like there is short hair there.

I love this! I used to have a pixie,a messy one,and I loved it! Actually I had my hair styled in all possible ways I can think of. Now my hair is long,down to more than half of my back and i am loving how it is easy to style long hair. I loved short hair too but only thing about it is that it is very demanding,takes a lot to keep it healthly while using all those styling products...but maybe I will go short again!;)

My 71-year-old mother has a beautiful very short pixie-type cut and has had some version of this cut for years, but now, at its shortest, I think it's the best looking, and makes *her* look the best - much younger than when it was longer... And no hair dye, no plastic surgery or "procedures,"... Just a beautiful woman. Older women can DEFINITELY wear short hair! I plan to!
