What causes acne?
There are a few known triggers -- the most common: genetics and hormones that affect sebaceous glands, hormone-inducing stress, and beauty products. In the last case, "It's not actually a breakout -- it's a reaction to the product," says Day. So that zit might actually be a product-irritated pore.
Treat all these causes with a mixture of medication, skin care products and lifestyle changes. But be warned, "acne is not fast healing," Day says. So be patient. Expect three to four months before your skin clears up.

I totally agree that the Neutrogena grapefruit stuff is just awful! I think it actually makes your acne worse by over-drying your skin.

I have tried the clinique clarifying lotion and it's pretty great. Will stay away from the worst products.

When my acne was really bad I used the Clinique Acne Solutions and it really didn't do much for me. The alcohol doesn't help either. When I started to getting glycolic peels, the PTR pads were recommended, and I actually like those.

I have tried everything for my severe acne. The only thing that worked was acne treatment from Daniel Kern and Clean and Clear facewash. I am now acne free.
