17 Hairstyles That Take Less Than 10 Minutes

Cutesy name: Knotty and Nice

Time it took us: 5 minutes

Works on:
· Medium to long hair
· Straight or blown-straight hair
· Smooth hair that's been thoroughly brushed out

Stuff to have on hand
· 2 tiny clear hair elastics
· Hairspray
· Shine-enhancing gloss (spray or serum)

How to:
Step 1
Part hair in the middle or slightly off center, but it's important to have a pretty balanced left and right side.
Step 2
Part hair all the way down to the nape of your neck as if you're making pigtails.
Step 3
Spritz shine spray or run shine serum over the left side of your hair, then secure one elastic about 1-2 inches from the bottom of that section. Repeat on the right side.
Step 4
Take both sections and twist them inward (toward each other) and back.
Step 5
Wrap them around each other until the ponies look like rope. Then tuck the bottom under and secure with several large bobby pins.
Step 6
Spray on a bit of hairspray to smooth down any flyaways.

out of all of these, only 2 caught my eye (knotty & nice and vintage vamp) and the photos didn't provide as much detail as i would like. the time estimates seem way off - especially for the amount of bobby pins and backcombing required for most of these styles!

When you give advice on hair styles, I truly believe that it would be helpful to separate into hair length and type because I really don't think that I could do many of these with my chin--shoulder length straight and fine hair.

#10 says curly, wavy or straight hair, but by using the model with super curly, ethnic-type hair, I can't see how to do it or how it should look with my wavy/straight hair. For these styles, 2 different models should be used so we can see how each step looks, as well as the final product, for both hair types.

I am loving these looks!! I too am a fan of the "messy" look and have tried pulling it off myself before and never quite got it to look the right kind of messy. It just looked like a plain old MESS. How are these styles different from your article about hairstyles you're sick of? People who don't have straight or wavy hair like these models can't relate. You seriously couldn't find any Black models with coarser hair than that model with the mixed-textured hair, or are highly-paid hairstylists still incompetent in that area? to the no frizz comment.. I got started on the No Frizz by Living Proof @ Sephora about a month ago... LOVE IT!!! I have a poof ball normally. Now I can even blow dry my hair and have normal looking hair.. Everyone I know who has tryed it loves it. little pricey but Totally worth it. It has new anti frizz technology and works on all hair types.

As far as washing your hair everyday, that is something that you want to try to avoid probably just as much as using heat on your hair. The more you wash your hair, you are depleating the natural oils in the scalp to nourish and keep your scalp moisturized. Have you ever noticed flaky scalp? Well that is one way to get it. By washing your hair everyday. Also, when you use those store bought shampoos and conditioners, you are looking at a product that has a high alkaline level well above a 7 ph. Usually you want to stay in a low range like 4.5-5.5 ph. With the high alkaline levels, this will cause the hair shaft to blast open instead of closing the cuticle. When the cuticle is closed, you will then receive shiny hair. Shiny hair is just reflection of light. Best product to buy is a guaranteed product from a salon. It may cost more up front, but in the long run, it will save you money cause you will spend less time messing with your hair.

The reason they say to style with "unwashed hair" is that it is MUCH easier to work with that freshly washed hair, especially for ladies with fine, limp locks, like myself. There's nothing gross about it. I only wash my hair 3 times a week. It makes my hair healthier and so much easier to style!
