12 Best Drugstore Mascaras

The Loreal Double Extend waterproof Mascara is the best I have ever found. The Primer is free with it and I cannot use a Mascara without it. It makes all the difference. I had some of the longest eyelashes in high school but that has been many years ago. This mascara makes my eyelashes look almost as long and voluminous as they were then. I was just thinking of the only mascara we had back then, the Maybelline dry mascara in the little red sliding palette with the little red brush. It worked pretty darn well too! We have come a long way! It wasn't waterproof, which was a real problem. Back to the Loreal... I swam in it, water skied, even went scuba diving in it and was under the water for 30 minutes, cried in it and allergies at times have left my eyes constantly wet, but never raccoon eyes! It does not run! The price is unbelievable. I have tried so many other very expensive high end waterproof products but none work as well as this one. At this price, why not try it?! My granddaughter, who is up on the latest in cosmetics was out of her usual expensive brand. I sent her this one. Later on I asked her if she was out of any of her makeup and she said yes , could I please get her the same mascara I got her before? Really, I think it is THE BEST! I wear contacts and have bad allergies and never have had a problem with it. Does not irritate my eyes either. I get many samples of other mascaras. I try them out at home first and most of them fail miserably so I never wear the out. Back to Loreal Double Extend...my all time favorite!

The Loreal voluminous mascara does not work one bit. I have very long, black, curly lashes and somehow that mascara dulled them, clumped them, and made them stick straight out. Horrible stuff!

This is a nice soft natural look. If you want super long lashes, you would have to wait and dry a little between coats yo make them long. It is a good layering mascara.

I have tried a lot of mascara over the years and I keep coming back to Maybelline's Define-A-Lash. My lashes, after curling and applying it, reach to my brow bone! Special brush separates lashes in a way other mascaras cannot. It is SO WORTH giving it a try!

For me, mascara is all about the brush! My favorites unfortunately, didn't make the list. I absolutely love the Cover Girl mascaras - they have a very diverse product to choose from and they come with the best brushes I've seen so far. However... I can't wait to try the elf wet gloss for eyelashes and brows. I've been looking for something like that and haven't been able to find it anywhere! I've seen elf products pop up in our local Walgreens and they are decently priced too!

I've tried a lot of mascaras as most of them irritate my eyes. Always been a fan of Cover Girl mascaras. The L'oreal Double Extend is not one I really like. It smudged too easily and really irritate my eyes. Plus I am a fan of a product that is easy to apply. You have to put the white stuff on first, let it dry then use the black side. Takes too long for me. I haven't tried a few of these on the list, so I'll rightfully give them a try.

I am an Avon representative and I sincerely recommend Avon produsct since I also use them as well. Both of Avon's mascaras mentioned here are best sellers among my clients and I've never gotten negative feedback about them. Lóreal, Covergirl and Maybelline are among my favorites too.

I thought Max Factor products were no longer manufactured? So why is Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Mascara on this list? (Max Factor's Stretch and Separate Mascara was my FAVORITE but then stores stopped carrying it and online it said that Max Factor was purchased by another company. Interesting. I just tried my first drugstore mascara in ages, CG's Lash Blast Volume, for some reason they sent me a full sized tube in an CG anniversary box, with foundation samples and coupons. I used it for the first time yesterday and LOVE it. Amazing, I can't believe how good it is and it is drugstore. I will probably rebuy when I work through my mascara stash. Will consider some of the above as well.

I have naturally long and dark lashes. All Rimmel London mascaras Ive ever used (I've tried about 4 of them), are all horrible. They turn my lashes into long stringy messes. No volume or seperation. I did used to be a true Cover Girl Lash Blast fan, until I saw the ingredients contain parabens (extremely toxic to your health, and your fetus, if you're carrying one). Maybe if they come with a new formula without parabens, I'll try it. So far the best mascara for me has been Maybelline Falsies. It gives me HUGE, long, thick, dark, even fake-looking lashes. It lasts ALL day, and makes my eyes the absolute center of attention!

I decided to try Rimmel London Lash Accelerator because I wanted to try one of the new products that have recently come out that make your lashes grow, but I didn't want my eye color to change, which can be a side effect in some products. Well. this mascara is a lifesaver. My lashes always were long on top but sparse on top and bottom. Now both top and bottom lashes are long and fuller. I used to have bare spots along the lash line. Not anymore.

I totally agree with megpeg-- we natural blondes NEED brown mascara. My lashes are plenty long, but when you use black on them, I get a spidery, Morticia Adams effect. Also, brown makes blue eyes look amazing.

MegPeg: Go to the Lancome website there are all different styles of mascara nearly all come in the brown color. If you are that determined to get brown eyelashes, that is the best website to go to. And the quality of mascara is top notch. That way you won't waste any more of your time looking for it at a drug-store. Plus with Lancome they will send you free beauty samples to try with their products - it's a great deal.

Yes Ohiolady: Lancome Hypnose will not leaving you looking like a racoon at the end of the day. 2 tubes last me all year and that is using it every single day. It never becomes a clumpy mess which is nice too. It is $25/tube. But if you were to buy even 6 tubes a year of drug-store brand mascara that is over $50.00 when you could just buy 2 tubes at $50.00 that will last all yr. and you will be very happy with. Make sure you buy right from the website of Lancome - because you can find Lancome promo codes online for things like free shipping and free samples too - if you go to Macy's and buy it you will not get any free samples except the teeny tiny baby sample packets - where online with the right promo you can get 1 oz. of night cream, a lipgloss, and a sample mascara, and .50 oz. of eye cream. Just a hint!

As a natural blonde, I can't wear black or black/brown mascara. I need "BROWN" only mascara, yet it is SOOOOO hard to find. Or if I do find a store that has it, it's always out of it!!! My personal fave mascara is Avon's Wash Off Waterproof. I'm lucky to have long dark full lashes, and oily skin, so I need mascara that stays put all day but comes off easily with my facial cleanser or cleansing towelettes & this one does it for me. I also have allergies & wear contacts & this mascara doesn't bother my eyes at all. It is reasonably priced, around $6.00 & Avon often has it on sale. I've tried them all including the dept store brands & I've stuck with this mascara for many years.

I disagree with this whole list. I'm a mascara nazi, and I'm in utter astonishment that Covergirl's Lashblast, and even Maybelline Falsies are not on here. I used to use very expensive mascaras from Sephora, and I'll never spend 20 dollars on mascara again when I can spend 7 on an AWESOME mascara.

What about Maybelline Falsies Mascara?!? The Waterproof is awesome! My eyelashes stay curled are thick and extra long. But also...it depends on if you are putting it on correctly too. I've literally had to apply make-up for some women I know. Has anybody ever curled their eyelashes, put a coat of mascara on your eyelashes the "normal" way and then apply mascara to the top of your eyelashes going backwards? No? Well you'd be amazed at the results! I get asked all the time if mine are fake, but I say "no, it's the mascara."

I've been "testing" mascaras since I was a teen,(about 30 years!) and I have recently fallen in love with L'Oreal Voluminous Million. The new brush is a step up from the original Voluminous-I end up with long, lush,naturally up-curled lashes with, most importantly, no clumps! Yay!

The best is Rimmel, but not the one that they have in this article. It's the "length" one. It works amazing.

Never tried Rimmel London. I always use Cover girl mascara. I used Revlon once and it clustered up.

L'oreal Featherlash was the absolute best. I would get compliments often and I would recommend it every time. Why did they quit making it? I love Featherlash!

I have to say, I've tried lots of mascaras but my favorite is Voluminous by loreal. It is fantastic. It really makes my lashes lush, thick, but natural looking. It's inexpensive too.

I love the department store types (us "regular people" can't always afford the others!). Great article (very helpful). I have also tried the Maybelline Full 'n Soft and it's FANTASTIC. Although I often try to new mascaras, I keep going back to it.
