I just read the article previous to this one about mistakes older women make when it comes to make up. It specifically stated NOT to wear blush on the apples of our cheeks. This article directly following while is ways to look younger, we're being told to put blush on the apples of our cheeks. I don't know who is in charge of the articles that are written and posted on this website, but I am really starting to get annoyed with all the contradictions. I know that each woman has their own view about what is the best an what is not, but please - continuity! It seems now that every time I visit this website I read the same ol' stories or articles that directly contradict one another. I don't want my time wasted with information that is unclear, it's difficult enough being in my early 40's and dealing with the whole aging process without sites like this giving misinformation or just random tid bits without fact checking or working with the real professionals who have actual advice!!!!!!!

I don't wear any powder except Laura Geller's anti shine powers in my Tzone. Keeps my oily skin looking fresh. A good facial primer under makeup is great to fill in pores, soften wrinkles and make foundation go on great. You can even wear the primer without foundation and it's great. Sun Screen--love Cliniques spf40 for face.

Oily is good because in the end your skin stays younger longer...I get more compliments on dewy than matte face finishes. I like these tips except for the false lashes....I will go for more mascara at the roots after I curl with my 8th grade Maybelline Lash Curler!!!

I honestly don't know what to believe. One article States wearing blush on the apples of your cheeks is one mistake that makes you look older, then this article with tipsto help you look younger says to apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. So many contradictions. However, there were some helpful tips that I will try!

Nice reminders of how-to's and good new m/u tips. But as a "mature" woman, I still love my red lipstick, still apply a light eyeliner to bottom lashes (have smaller, deep-set eyes), and use power to hide those ugly veins. Use what looks best on YOU !!!

Great tips, also if you are going to apply powder I usually just apply it to the t-zone so that dewiness still shows through. Gloss and blush are always great for looking younger!

Another great tip is to apply dark eyeliner ONLY to the top lashline. On the bottom waterline a beige eyeliner does WONDERS. Also if you're going to use loose powder to set foundation, don't apply it under your eyes.

Great tips. Some already tried and true-gloss,eyeliner, some I have been meaning to try -curled lashes and 1/2 falsies. What really wowed me was the concealer tip. I've never heard of this method of applying it. I already put some on (stopped reading for a sec)and it looks really good- better than usual application. I am also going to try the mauve shadow and rosy lipstick.

this really seems more like a thinly veiled advert for specific beauty products (expensive ones), with a little bit of fairly obvious advice. and a tip for the tipster: when using cream blush, use after foundation and before powder. when using powder blush, use after facial powder. another tip: for the clear gloss plain old, inexpensive petroleum jelly is great. and if my cover girl eye lash curler curled any better, i'd have spiral eyelashes.

i appreciate the tip for correctly applying concealer but was surprised to see the recommendation for shimmery shadow - doesn't that accentuate fine lines and veer towards looking too young (or looking like you're trying to hard to look young?)

Fabulous Tips-I have noticed as time goes by the less is more-so I have changed the act and see the difference-the main idea is to keep the makeup from settling in the lines-so very bad-and I like that more is less and the colors should be lighter which is more youthful. I will buy the eyelash curler-another fabulous idea- Love the whole article.

Absolutely!!! The lighter the better. The golden rule-less is more-as time goes by we need to apply less for that more youthful look-due to the fact makeup will settle into those dreadful lines and age our appearance. Brighter or lighter lipstick is the way to go as well as blush. We are the masters of our appearance and the world is our stage.

Make up will always be my best friend!! Haha. But it doesn't do a whole lot if you don't have a really good base underneath ( I learned that the hard way)! Try using prodermagenix as an anti aging serum and moisturizer, then use a highlighting cream oh your check bones, eyelids, in the creases of the eye, and on your temples. When you apply makeup on top of these two bases, it makes just about any makeup look really smooth and flawless.

Start using an under eye creme when you are in your teen and use it every morning and every night. A cold cream like Pond's is fine to use under your eyes and to smooth your neck. NEVER say, "I'll use it when I get older." Every day your skin is subjected to every element and pollutant out there and the time to start is the first time you read about it. Where I lived, the older women would always tell me, every day, to use foundation and the whole nine, I would say to myself - I'm 12. Every bit of advice they gave me I remember to this day and you know what? They were right!

At 55, I always use some kind of foundation to even out skin tone. The problem was finding a foundation that is non comedic, because foundation can make you sweat. I found L'Oreal mousse foundation works well! The new L'Oreal brush foundation is very good. I moisturize, with non comedic lotion, then dot my face. You are supposed to put your foundation all over your face - eyelids, lips, corner of eyes, because it is a foundation you work on top of. It makes all your other make up stay in place and look better. No need to wear it heavy, although you can. You must blend well. Take cotton balls and blend on your hairline, sides of the nose, eyebrows. Use a 3x magnification mirror. Anything more and you'll go nuts! Halston was the best foundation I ever used. Don't keep your foundations year after year. Although they may look OK, in the bottle, when you put it on, it will turn orange and the darn things aren't cheap. Use a loose powder, over the foundation and blend that well, too. I use Alexandria de Markoff and Maybelline has good powders, as well. Payot owns L'Oreal and L'Oreal bought Maybelline, so the Maybelline products have gotten better. An angled eyeliner brush makes it much easier to get a cat's eye, small or large. I went to art stores, picked out a fine,small painting brush and cut it at an angel. Go up from the outer lid and angle down to the middle of your eyelashes. Then go to the inner edge and finish back. Q-tips smudge it, even it out. Many shadows can be made wet for eyelining. I start with a powder eyeliner base and then go over it, with the same powder -wet. Revlon makes a great creme eyeliner with a small brush. It stays on. Believe it or not, I can do all this in 15 min., with blush, lipstick, mascara. Blend well, practice/play/experiment, have fun. Take the right steps and you'll look good with time to spare.

My lashes have stayed nice and long and full, I am over 40 and surgically menopausal since age 30. The thing that suprised me was my lashes turned gray! Almost all of them! Now I have to be sure to put mascara on the base of my lashes as well as the tips or I get a 2 toned effect! UGH!

That's a lot of shine added together. Lip gloss is too goopy for me, generally. A sheer lipstick feels better and has the same effect, but with a wider range of finishes.

Good tips. Some I knew, some are new to me. I think the shimmering eyeshadow can be okay, depends on the degree of shimmer, a little subtle shimmer can look great. Colored eyeshadows, and not just beige browns seem to make my eyes more youthful, like the overall look is more perky and alert. Since I added some color, I get a lot of compliments, but, no one knows what it is. LOL. Also, I agree on the lighter lipsticks, BUT, deeper colors like plums which I love, and burgandies, depending on time of year, look great when they are sheer.

Some good tips, but shimmer eye shadow of any color is a bad choice for aging eyes (it accentuates crepe-y eyelids), and who has $70 to spend on a concealer? But the Shiseido eyelash curler has made a huge difference in the way my eyes look, and I've been moving from plummy shades to rosier ones and finding that they do make me look more like my younger self.

Good tips for everyday, not just anti-aging. Although I'm in my 20's and I can't say that I don't want to look younger too. Also whatever makeup that you do wear blend, blend, blend. Softer diffused colors are always better than harsh lines. Also don't overpluck your brows because they often won't grow back. Groomed brows offer a youthfil, polished look.

Good tips for the most part but I've been noticing that many beauty mags and sites say no foundation for older women---it's aging, and to just use sunscreen and moisturizer. Also false lashes? Come on. Maybe for Kim Kardashian, but certainly not an everyday thing for the rest of us!
