Slim women always shop with a list Laurel House, author of "Quickie Chick's Cheat Sheet to Life, Love, Food, Fitness, Fashion and Finance -- On a Less-Than-Fabulous Budget," says that her number one grocery-shopping tip is to shop with a list -- and stick to it. "I only buy the necessities," she says. "The impulse buys are generally the most fattening and the most expensive." She keeps an ongoing list in her pantry, and chooses foods based on a "bites with benefits" philosophy she developed. "I think of my goals for the week -- like sleeping better or de-stressing," she says. "If I have a vacation coming up, I'll buy belly-flattening foods. Foods that are high in potassium will flush out salt. High-water foods -- like cucumbers, celery, and watermelon -- are also good." To help keep her on track, she'll write the benefits next to the item on her list.
I completely disagree with this..for one I'm from Hawaii so coconut water was a staple only in the main lad was it a fad and I don't need a list, and I also love sales which I stock up on. I'm considered slim at 99lbs, a little taller than 5'3, and was a personal trainer.. I'd like to know from this article what they consider slim because more 80% of women are more than 10 lbs over weight, which you see all around everyday.
I have lost 50 pounds doing what this article says to do. the one other thing I do is to type my menu at the stop of the grocery list, then list the ingredients for each meal, which is my shopping list. I buy only the items on the list. Everything healthy, especially fresh vegetables and salmon. My husband and I even splurge by cutting in half a rib eye steak.
This is great advice! I try to watch what I eat, and I have been pretty good about cutting out all of the junk foods from my daily diet but I definitely have some things I could improve on. I like the idea of a shopping list and writing down the benefits of products as well right next to them, I haven't tried that but I think it's a great visual reminder whether or not what you are paying for is good for you or not.
Great shopping tips! It's also reassuring to know that I already shop like this. Where I get into trouble is with discount cookies. I just need to avoid the baked goods section!
great tips...I better make a list now, I'm used in buying in impulse so I end up with so many unused products that just go to waste...the expiry thing is also new to me, I better check that out too..thanks for the tip
Every single one of these tips is right on. I need to be more savvy about getting frozen health foods. Since I only cook for two, we end up wasting a lot of food when we buy everything fresh.
These tips are ON POINT ! I love grocery shopping and now that i am married, I tend to cook my own food and avoid junk food. It is a task to always keep your lists while shopping so you wouldnt get distracted at the grocery shop. The only problem is that some really organic products are expensive!
Very too the point and common sense info... I would also suggest that if you can hit a farm market or local produce market for the local and in season stuff, it's usually and better price and less temptation...
I agree with the tips mentioned in this article. I always by less healthy items when the grocery store is busy because of all the stress I endure trying to find healthy food! Find what you like, and stick with it. No need to try crazy fads. Drink regular water, not juice or pop. Stock up on fruits an veggies, and avoid the candy aisle at all costs. You'll be in shape in no time :)
Thanks for the tips. However, it's always hard to shop at the right time. Being a busy mom, I'm often going to the store when I'm tired and hungry... not good timing.
