Myth: "I'm not wearing any makeup." Journalists are guilty of spreading this particular rumor even more than celebrities themselves. Think of the number of magazine cover stories that start with the line, "She was completely makeup-free and looked gorgeous." The likely truth, however, is that the star was wearing very strategic makeup. "It takes a lot of time and attention to get the 'no makeup' look," says Suki Kramer, founder of natural skin care line Suki. "It actually takes more time to look like you're not wearing any than to get the glam look." After all, how many women -- beautiful celebrity or not -- would show up to an important interview completely barefaced?

When Lady Gaga appeared on the October 2011 cover of "Harper's Bazaar" without makeup, she explained in the interview that it's not as simple as washing your face and posing for a picture. "There's this idea that it's all natural, but everything's been staged to look natural," said Gaga. "Don't you think that what's on the cover of a magazine is quite artificial?" At least she's willing to admit it.

This is a fantastic article. Exposing the myths while giving advice or showing evidence to refute is a great addition, making things much clearer. It is especially important for young women, who haven't lived enough to have healthy skepticism.

What I like best about this article is that it offers reasonable ideas to believe instead of the hype. It's easy to say "Celebrities are all liars and everything they do is fake, of course!" but I think it's just as unrealistic to make blanket negative assumptions as it is to make blanket positive ones. And frankly, I'm just as tired of negative hype as positive hype. Thanks for giving a more well-rounded perspective!

If you believe any of the "secrets" the celebs share, you are naive. They have multiple regular & frequent surgeries, injectables, personal assistants, chefs, photoshop ... the works. Their looks are their lives, unlike the average and not so average Jane, that have additional priorities. Love Gaga's glasses and Katie Holmes' hair in the pics featured.

I really don't like the way celebs lie about dropping their pregnancy weight. My best friend is currently struggling with her baby weight and it seems really tough. I've never had a baby, but it seems like one more thing to stress out about. She's always tired and never has the time or energy to exercise. I guess you really have to push yourself?

I was looking at a spread on Charlize Theron wearing a multitude of fabulous dresses. She could do no wrong. What most people do not realize is that she was born that way. I'm a size 4 and I don't look anything like her. There are few that hit the jackpot on 6 feet legs and 34D boobs. I just emphasize my assets.

Thanks for the confirmation that the celebs "secrets" don't hold water. These people dedicate their lives to looking good, as the article stated. I'm sure personal trainers and chefs help, but they only go so far. Plastic surgeons are definitely the big winner here.

Honestly, I know about a lot of women who are not celebrities and look really impressive with average products,makeup and clothes. It is crazy to think how they would look if they had all the money and personnel that celebrities have at their disposal. Most of the famous women are under average in the looks department.

Taller women get back into shape after babies pretty quickly, usually, because their bellies don't get as big in the first place. I know more than one woman over 5'7" who was back in her pre-baby shape within 6 weeks after the birth. Most of us average-height women have a much harder time of it.

Didn't Mariah Carey have some type of "tummy tuck" after her twins were born? And now she is touting some weight loss system as the reason for her ability to bouce back from having 'dem babies? She was so unsteady on her feet she had to have help to move around on the Rosie Show last month...watch the footage if you can...she moves very gingerly. She didn't lose the extra weight by dieting she had it removed by a plastic surgeon....& that isn't playing fair by lying to regular people & prormising you can look like them if you just followed their lead. This is totally rank what they are doing to those of us who need to loose weight.

The sleep thing! When will someone decide what is right? First you hear that 6 hours is never enough for anyone, that you need 8 hours no matter what, some people more. This article made me realize that celebrities have access to more than the average person could, so of course they are going to look better. They have dieticians, personal trainers, access to the best gyms, spas, dermatologists, hair stylists and on on. I feel better now that I realize that its not realistic to expect to look like a celebrity.

my uncle is a plastic surgeon in Florida, he told me this: celebrity and very wealthy women will most of the time NOT go all the way to full gestation with their babies, and rather will deliver early & by C-section so that their babies are smaller. To the average woman, most OBGYNs will not allow this, and all OBGYNs are not supposed to allow this unless there is a clear medical need- but honestly he said-money talks. So having delivered early, these women have the advantage of an extra month for healing and then extra time to get back in shape, in comparison with the masses. Straight from his mouth: almost all celebrity moms he knows of, and 96% of the wealthy women who are clients of his, have a procedure shortly after birth called a tummy tuck (some of them call it a "two-for ". Then as they are healing from child birth, they are also healing from their tummy tuck-and the media is none-the wiser because the woman has just had a baby. That is why their skin is no longer stretched out, they even get their stretch marks lasered. Many of them also have a procedure which like shoe-laces ties together the muscles in their abs that spread apart as the baby grows. The only way these muscles can come back together as tight before is by having them surgically tied or laces together.....It is not physically possible for a woman's body, made of the same elements as every other woman's to come back together as these in the media, except by surgery. Exercise, watching what you eat, and sleep and plenty of water do enhance your physical state- but do not dramatically change your physique to the degree these celebrities have achieved in this period of time or completely. So to all of you women, doing your best, keep doing your best and eat healthy-you will get close to what is normal and possible-naturally. And remember you have a beautiful baby!!

i have to say i appreciate lady gagas honesty. celebreties who claim a particular product or one exercise makes them look glam are full of baloney. they have stylists, hair/makeup professionals, personal trainers to help them. and i'm sure they exercise way more than many of them claim, especially the older gals.

I had a sister in law that pre her first baby she was a size zero. Post baby she came out a size 4 and didn't look like she'd had the baby (which was carried in the back and not the front for her). Looks can be deceiving. It took her the better part of a year to get back to close to her original size, but you'd never have noticed it unless you knew her dress size from the start.

That is so true. I hate it when magazines feature articles or covers claiming that the celebs aren't wearing any makeup. It's obvious that they're still wearing makeup, it's just them wearing a lot less than what they usually do when they are all made up. And 12 hours of sleep a night? That's crazy. I love sleeping, but I'm fine with just 8, and I'm lucky if I can even get 8 hours of sleep, considering me going to school full time and working. And I've tried 12 hours of sleep before, and actually woke up feeling sluggish and lazy, and like I wasted a part of my day. So I won't be doing that again if given the chance to.

Some of this stuff is just nuts-even though 12 hours of sleep a night actually sounds pretty awesome, its not realistic to people who have priorites. Leeches? Gross. Mayple Syrup diet-yeah, not healthy at all. I had a friend who tried to copy that diet. Needless to say that was a waste of time.

Leeches to detox sounds so so gross!!! Over the winter break, I sleep so much, usually up to 12 hours! I thought it was just way too much sleep and it keep me up all night long. My sleep schedule was from 2 am to 2 pm! Now that school started, there is no way I can run on that schedule! Gotta sleep by midnight and wake up around 8 am!
