Rock a unibrow "I had a unibrow when I was younger so I plucked constantly to open a gap. My mom told me I shouldn't pluck my eyebrows because Frida Kahlo had a uni-brow and she thought it was beautiful. It's safe to say I still pluck to this day -- thanks though, Ma." -- Briana Lawrence via Facebook
aha it was usually just other people that told me this! once I shaved my arms and I was so scared that the hair would get thicker. It didn't though. Thank god!
I enjoyed a laugh reading these but I have to say my Mom never gave me any of these "tips" except she did suggest I get a perm when I wanted curly hair.....but it wasn't her fault it came out so frizzy...I blame the beautician who should have told me I only needed a body wave after describing the look I wanted!!
never cake on your make up i have been wearing makeup since i was 14 my mom always said less is better and told me to use a good mosturizer i started using olay at 16
My mom tricked me into getting a perm too. I had beautiful, soft, straight hair when I was little and I wanted curly hair. The way my mom put it, a perm would give me big, soft, volumous curls like my cousin had. After I got it, my hair looked ugly and it was super frizzy. It looked like curls they got in the 80s,only frizzer and drier. Ever since then I have to deep condition,,blow dry, and super straighten my hair to get it looking somewhat pretty.
Wow, some of the comments are really mean and judgemental. Calling someone's mom stupid?? Is that really called for? Anyways- I can totally see these things happening especially when you look back at beauty routines from the past - ironing hair, lots of hair spray, etc. Even though I really never knew you could remove freckles.
wow seriously? My mom told me the complete opposite of all these things. I cant imagine a person actually saying any of that. I mean, come on, someone needs to be clueless to believe those things and actually press them onto their children. Im so luck I such an awesome mom :) shes the best. she never put me down and forced me to do anything I didn't want to do (except for cleaning my room and stuff :D)
My mom never gave me any of these tips, but other people did tell me not to condition (which I laugh at, I have wavy curly hair and conditioner is a LIFE SAVER) every time. They also tell me to use hairspray to keep flyaways down. Hairspray is sticky and just makes my hair look like a ratted mess (seriously) sooo not for me.
my mom popped my goddammn pimples too...lol remembering now i laugh but it was pain, got some scars and shite large pores now but what you gonna do? :D
These are some interesting stories, and what were some of the thinking behind them. I think the worst and somewhat disgusting, was taking off things from your face with saliva. I know there were other people who have seen this, but was it for lipstick?
My mom did the same with my eyebrows! I had these awful bushy brows till I was 14. Then a friend went to town on them and made them even worse. If only my mom had taken me to a salon to get them waxed..
My mom told me to never shave above my knees. That not only will my hair grow back thicker but more will grow. Any time she notices she still tells me not to. You rock your hairy thighs mom, not me.
