Essential Vitamins For Healthy Skin
Want healthier skin? Try some of these essential vitamins
According to Georigiana Donadio, Founder and Director of the National Institute of Whole Health in Boston, if you feed your skin from the inside out, you cannot help but benefit. Vitamins C and E are two of the most important vitamins for healthy skin. Vitamin C can help prevent the consequences due to prolonged exposure to the skin, which can often result in skin cancer, while Vitamin E has the ability to reduce wrinkles, photo damage and improve skin texture.
Foods that are high in Vitamin C include anything citrus, such as oranges, grapefruits and lemons, as well as vegetables such as bell peppers, broccoli, and other leafy greens. These foods all contain high amounts of these important vitamins for healthy skin, but if you are concerned that you are not consuming enough of these vitamins, you can also take Vitamin C supplements. Topical Vitamin C applied to the skin helps with collagen production for a more youthful appearance. Just ask your dermatologist to prescribe you a good topical medication.
Vitamin E can be found in everything from nuts to olives to spinach, and can also be consumed in supplement form, but only up to 400 milligrams per day. Other good vitamins for healthy skin include Vitamin A, Biotin and Niacin. Vitamin A is important for skin tissue repair and maintenance, and when applied topically it helps reduce wrinkles and control acne. Biotin is responsible for skin, hair and nail formation, and can also help with hair growth. Foods that contain Biotin include bananas, rice, oatmeal and eggs.
