Finding The Best Hair Colors For Dark Skin

Never look washed out again -- Hair stylist secrets on finding the best hair colors for dark skin

You see it all the time - dark skin with light hair as well as pale skin with dark hair. Some pull it off well, like Beyonce and Megan Fox, while so many others try taking the same route and fall short (example: when Kim Kardashian went blonde). Now why is that? One major element many people fail to take into consideration when coloring their hair is skin undertone. Some people have warm under tones, while others have cool under tones. To check your undertones, simply go into the sunlight and look at the veins in your wrist. If they appear blue, your undertones are cool. If they look green, your undertones are warm. Most dark skinned women tend to have warm undertones. This plays a big part in finding the best hair colors for dark skin.

L'Oreal Paris colorist Christophe Robin says that skin tone and eye color are both important when it comes to finding the best hair color for dark skin and light skin . Pale skin and blue-eyed beauty Megan Fox is an example of a cool-skin tone, as she has lighter skin and blue eyes. Her hair color is a dark ashy shade of brown, which suits her well, as a warmer color would clash with her natural skin tones. Those with warm undertones should select colors that are rich and warm, as cool colors will make one look washed-out. Browns, warm reds and golden highlights are the best hair colors for darker skin with warm skin tones (think Rihanna, Beyonce and Jessica Alba). Be sure to communicate with your stylist about what you want. If you opt for an at-home hair dye job, be sure to look at the label. The words "golden", "caramel" and "honey" indicate they are for warm tones, while "ash" or "natural" are geared more towards cool tones.

It is important to match the best color with your skin, as the wrong color can detract from your best features. These tips will help you find the best hair colors for dark skin which will not only make you appear younger but has the potential to alter your face shape as well. Talk about an instant makeover!

LOVE this, my skin is naturally a golden caramel and I have naturally reddish brown hair. I am thinking about adding in some golden chestnut to my hair for fun :) thanks for the tips

Dark hair suits pale skintones like Kim kardashian, haifa wehbe, dita von teese, megan fox,amy lee of evenesence,latinas/iranian/arabs/european,sarah lime..the contrast between the fair/pale/light skin and dark hair is gorgeous! if you look at african american model eva pigforrd and her blonde hair it looks lovely on her.

As a girl with olive skin and Mediterranean features, dark brown hair suites me the most. it would be cool to interview women of many nationalities to dark about their distinctive beauties.

I was born with jet black hair and it washes me out during the fall and winter. I might go lighter.

this is true. i have warm undertones and i enjoy experimenting with hair color but sometimes it can be tricky. certain browns/reds wash me out, and makes everything blend together.
