Kelly Osbourne Gets A Million Dollar Manicure -- For Charity

Yup, she's at it again. After freaking people out with a $250,000 manicure, Kelly Osbourne got everyone's panties in a twist with a $1 million mani. She wore the quarter mil Azature mani to the Emmy's last year, but sported Azature's million dollar White Diamond polish more recently (she's seen here with a friend, showing it off). The bottle contains 98 carats worth of crushed diamonds in it.   read more

Barbie Gets A Real Hair Makeover

• Even though the first black Barbie debuted in the '60s, she's finally just now getting a hair update. Sort of. The online doll maker Natural Girls United, takes existing dolls and gives them afros, braids and bandu knots, to better reflect real womens' hair. "I see people walking around with gorgeous hairstyles that inspire me," said company founder and doll designer Karen Byrd. Byrd said she loved Barbie, but said she "always noticed that my African American dolls did not look like me. If a child is constantly looking at images, dolls, television, books and magazines and only seeing beauty as something or someone with non-ethnic features and long, straight hair -- then they are going to assume that this is what beauty is. It is something that has hurt our young people for centuries." The custom designs retail for between $40 and $140. [Shine]   read more

Jada Pinkett Smith Shaves It (Mostly) All Off

When Lena Dunham Met Bergdorf Legend Betty Halbreich

Lena Dunham, the Ryan Seacrest of the lady-comedy set, isn't content with just one hit comedy, so she's creating a new show for HBO, about the life of Berdorf Goodman's 85-year-old legend Betty Halbreich. Halbreich is a personal shopping guru and by all accounts a very sassy lady. Here's what she had to say to about jeans. "I have to tell you, I've never worn a pair of blue jeans in my life. I've tried them on. Behind closed doors. They're very uncomfortable!"   read more

"Embrace fashion's '90s revival with Missoni's colorful scrunchie. Crafted from mint satin with a white, pink and red crochet-knit overlay, this super elasticated, wide design won't snag your hair." We're gonna repeat that: A $95 scrunchie. Discuss. [Net A Porter]   read more

Surgeons Live Tweet A Double Mastectomy

Earlier this month, Melissa Ray, a 39-year-old native of Arizona, traveled to San Antonio, where a team of doctors at the PRMA Plastic Surgery center performed a double mastectomy on her. Just like Angelina Jolie, Ray tested positive for the BRCA gene, or breast cancer gene. And after watching her mother die of the disease, opted to have an elective double mastectomy. By having the surgery, Ray reduces her risk of the disease to 98 percent.   read more

Instagram May Make You Lose Your Appetite

• As anyone who's spent an hour or two scrolling through pictures on Instagram can tell you, looking at other people's perfectly crafted plates of food can be a little overwhelming. And now, a new study out of Brigham Young University and the University of Minnesota backs that up. Published in The Journal of Consumer Psychology, the study found that looking at too many pictures of food can actually make it less enjoyable to eat. Explains study co-author Ryan Elder, "In a way, you're becoming tired of that taste without even eating the food. It's sensory boredom -- you've kind of moved on. You don't want that taste experience anymore." Jeff Larson, one of the study's authors, admitted that he even grew a bit nauseated by cake after looking at images of the sweet dessert so much. "Even I felt a little sick to my stomach during the study after looking at all the sweet pictures we had," he said. So basically we're going on an Instagram diet. [Medical News Today]   read more
