Taylor Chang-Babaian, Hair & Makeup Stylist:

I'm going to show you how to do a modern roller set to get wavy hair. So normally with roller sets, the old fashioned way of doing it was to curl them under, but we want that nice, Giselle, beautiful bouncy wave, so we're going to curl them sideways. In order to section off the hair, you're just going to use a tail comb or a teasing comb just so you can get that nice line to separate the hair. Comb it out. You want to use a large roller at an inch to an inch of a half. If you want less of curl and a larger wave, you're going to use a larger roller.

Now, curl that back, and tuck in any extras.

And I like to use these large clamps. Most of the rollers come with steel pins but I found that they're hard to work with. Now she already has some mousse in her hair that we've already dried, so in order to hold you curl, it's best to have mouse or gel in your hair, but make sure it's dry before you set it.

Again we're rolling the hair sideways, making sure to tuck in any loose ends. Now I'm going to do this around the entire head, along the neckline as well as the side of the head. However for the top, I am going to go ahead and do the old fashioned back curl. The trick to this is making sure you get fairly large sections about an inch to two inches wide. For just the center area we're going to roll it back.

Around the ear area, I've put some tissue underneath just in case the rollers are a little warm. Some of these rollers can get really hot. Now I'm going to continue rolling down the center of the head, and we'll also continue on the right side of her hair.

Okay so we just put it in all of our rollers. Again, the sides are going to go vertically and the top is going to go horizontally back all the way down to the nape of the neck. And we're going to let those sit for ten minutes and come back and let it all loose.

So we're just going to undo these and roll them out gently. We got nice, pretty wavy hair there. Roller sets are great for volume that's why we do roller sets as opposed to just curling it. Then take a brush. This is a technique that you always see on all those hair commercials. Roller sets. Now we're going to break up some of that using a little bit of product.

I have hot rollers but have only used them a few times, because I can't get the curls to last for very long. Maybe I'll give them a try again in the morning!

If you have naturally curly or wavy hair like me, you may want to start taking out the hot rollers as soon as you finish putting them in. Once I put in my last curler, I start removing the first one I put in. I have big curls that last all day. If I leave mine in for 10 min. like the video suggests, the curls are too tight.

I have never tried using rollers because I was always thinking it would be too hard to do it by myself. After watching this video I decided that maybe it's not too hard and I think I'm ready to give it a shot!! Any recommendations on which rollers to buy?? I always see soo many different kinds. I have really thick, long hair (it falls almost to the middle of my back). Do I need a certain kind of roller or will any do?
