Jeanne, San Diego Hair & Makeup Stylist:

I will show you an easy skin care technique on how to dry chapped lips. You'll need petroleum jelly and a soft bristle toothbrush. Apply the petroleum jelly on your lips. Then brush your lips with a brush for about two minutes. To keep your lips moist you're going to make sure you drink plenty of water, especially when the weather is cold and dry.

Protect your lips by using a lip balm that has sunscreen in it. The sun will burn your lips so please protect it. If you use lipstick make sure you pick a moisturizing lipstick. Or you can apply a lip balm and then your lipstick. Make sure your lip balm is made of natural skin care ingredients such as coconut oil or beeswax.

The video seemed a bit cheesy to me. Brush your lips for two minutes? I would say 30-45 seconds should do as you do not want to over exfoliate them. As for petroleum jelly? I will have to try it.

This was an interesting and inexpensive technique. I made my own lip scrub using products from my cupboard. Brown sugar, granulated sugar, honey and olive oil. It not only exfoliates my lips but leaves them soft, smooth and hydrated. I follow the scrub with a lip balm (my favorite is Burt's Bees) but any brand would work.

I use an old brush head on my electric toothbrush and I swear it's way smoother than when I used my manual toothbrush!!

I've used a toothbrush to exfoliate my lips for a long time but I never have used petroleum jelly before-hand. Good tip!
