Nars Concealer

This stuff is the bomb in Custard for dark circles. I put Custard just on the dark circle area and color Honey on the rest of my undereye.....blend them where they meet. It gives the appearance of little to no puffiness and dark circles are gone.11/04/2007

      Your Best Face Forward

I have tried many a cure in the pursuit of perfect skin; less sugar, more water, less caffeine, more vitamins, less chocolate – well, maybe not every cure. One option that has never felt right is foundation. Each time I have a professional makeup application, the artist in residence can hardly contain her zeal in recommending foundation and concealer – liquid, cream to powder, brush-on, spray-on, minerals – to create the perfect palate for the rest of my ‘do’. I have resisted, hemmed and hawed, and finally, last week, I succumbed. But only because I found the perfect solution! Colore Science Face Suncanny is a mineral crystal powder formula that comes in a tube with a role-out brush. The amount of product in the brush is determined by the number of times you twist and shake it, so you can apply just a very thin sheen or go over problem areas a few times for a thicker coat. The active ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which provide an spf of 20. The mineral crystals pick up light, giving skin that luminous glow I covet. I like this product so much I went back and bought another tube in translucent Sunforgettable spf 30 to powder my nose throughout the day. Nothing like an extra dose of spf after lunch… The initial tube for either formula comes with the foundation and a high quality brush. When you are ready for more you can pick up a refill rather than buying a whole new package. In addition to all of the fabulous characteristics I’ve already mentioned, there is no need to Soft Scrub your sink when you’ve finished applying your foundation -- one of my personal pet peeves about most mineral formulas. To find some near you, call 866.426.5673. Tell them Patricia’s Picks sent you. Ok now that we’ve figured out the foundation, let’s move on to concealer. I’m not sure what your view is regarding whether concealer should be applied before or after foundation – it’s akin to the age-old question ‘should I begin by dusting or vacuuming – or perhaps with a glass of wine...’ Every professional make-up artist I’ve asked (let’s say there were six) has said that the concealer goes on absolutely last – right before you grab your keys and walk out the door. Between you and me, I’m still getting used to the whole idea, and if I remember to use it at all I know it’s going to be a good day. Babor I have found two versions of concealer that I like; one that I use when I have a zit I want to cover, which is pretty much daily, and one for when I really want to look great for that close-up, which is about every 38 months or so. The first is Babor B. Young Pure Clear & Cover Stick. It is the size of a pencil, putty-like, and the color of skin. I rub it on and I swear it is undetectable on my face immediately after application. The best thing about this product is that since it is made by Babor it is actually designed to treat your zit like the evil trespasser that it is. It is packed with salicylic acid and works like a charm on those brazen little spots. You can find it at www.skinstore.com. For under-eye circles and other non-zit blemishes, MAC concealer is great. I apply it with a brush (as rigorously instructed). It takes me ages of time, about five minutes, but it really works. Suddenly I appear rested and unfettered, as if I’ve just returned from a lovely holiday abroad, where I slept for 14 hours every night. Perhaps I’ll go put some on now… Please send your questions and comments to: Patricia@PatriciasPicks.com Copyright © 2005 PatriciasPicks.com November 26, 2007, 1:08 pm

      A winner of a concealer!

I break this out for evenings or days when my Almay isn't doing the trick. I've used Nars concealer for six years now, and it is amazing. Full coverage, easy to apply and blend, and the colors I use are a perfect match for me. I use Vanilla when I'm a bit paler, custard when I'm a bit darker. April 21, 2008, 3:34 am

The texture and lipstick-like packaging made it difficult to achieve even coverage, so it looked streaky and granular and you could see the purple through it. Still, a lot of people seem to really love this product, so I'd recommend trying it on and checking out the results outside of the store before buying it. September 14, 2008, 12:22 am

      Great concealer

      by Scarlett23 (53 reviews)
Easy to apply, goes on smooth, great for under the eyes...didn't last all day to cover redness of blemishes, however. But it's my favorite concealer! May 15, 2008, 12:44 pm
